OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Kansas City Swifts vs Philly Eagles

I'm desperately trying to rationalize the Steelers needing Ty Warren. I really do believe that is your Gronk 2.0. Bowers is a Tony Gonzalez. I think they are going to be the top TEs next year.

Doing some stats analysis from last season - Pat Freiermuth is an atrocious run blocker. Bottom 10 in the league.

The lesson that should be taken from the Eagles is that you build from inside out. Football is constantly evolving, but that's a constant.

The Eagles had an Aaron Donald quite literally fall in their laps. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. Pittsburgh sports in general needs one of those right now, but I think Hillbilly Prince got our last Golden Goose and he's going to totally FUBAR it.

Where's that stat from? Not that I feel particularly skeptical.

I'll stick up a lot for Muth's season as a receiver which I think hasn't got the praise it deserves, but trying to play smashmouth football with a primary TE who is basically a receiver is a tough one. But I'll be surprised if Washington ever becomes a meaningful route runner. No complete TE is tough. They've got a lot of other needs and it feels like historically, projecting 1st round TEs is a shit show, but I'll buy the desire any day.

I get you. I think you might be looking too deep. Kendrick's a big big name. I cherish my ignorance of popular music by this point, but still know who he is. He's been a big big name for a long time.

And yeah, the NFL must have known that song was coming and okayed it. I doubt they'll mind being a talking point. But I doubt they went to him with that in mind. Just didn't care when he put it on the set list. Just a guess, but seems the most likely to me.
Yeah, Kendrick has 22 Grammy's (which is only a couple behind Jay-Z and Kanye for rappers despite not being out as long as those guys) and would be on a lot of people's shortlist for best rapper alive. So he's a mainstream critic darling and a fan favorite of one of the most popular music genres. Picking him for the half time show makes a ton of sense.

I'm sure they OK'ed all the stuff dissing Drake, but I actually think that's kinda cool. There has to be some restrictions, but like....you picked him to do the show. Let him do what he wants. I also find it kinda funny that Kendrick used the biggest stage to win a rap beef.

Having said that, I can't say I was that entertained during it. I like some rap music and I like Kendrick, but the Super Bowl half time isn't the time to listen to a dude spit bars. Frankly, I couldn't understand him well at the party I was at and I didn't pick up on a lot of the stuff that was supposed to be a diss.

Lastly in this post that ended up way longer than I intended, as a football fan I agree the half time show gets too much attention in general, but I think part of the reason it is getting a lot this year is because the game was such a dud. It always gets a lot by non-football fans, but what is there to really say about the game?

Its not necessarily about warren its about upgrading the te room because Washington is closer to OT than TE. Muth isn’t a blocker

PFF. Warren isn't that hard to project to me because he is like Gronk in that you just throw him the ball. He's lined up at TE, slot, out, hback. I think he is kind of the next NFL Swiss Army knife.

In the past, I think Freiermuth has graded out well as a pass blocker and poorly as a run blocker. That said, Washington is a monster run blocker so I'm not sure I see a huge issue with Freiermuth being bad at it. Their TE room is set up really well with Freiermuth and Washington going forward, don't see any need to worry about the position.

Well for a team that barely throws MOF, having another TE is just a waste of resources anyway.

Doesn't matter who the next QB who will be brought in, I promise you we won''t be throwing it to the middle bc it's a Tomlin decree.

Which is weird because Smith and Fields were using the mof. Smith wants to be heavy play action and attacking in breaking routes

Do you expect Washington to develop as a pass catcher and be able to run routes

There's always a bit of luck involved, but they've invested heavily in both lines, both in the draft and with the cap. It's not just one player.

I was on here making the case the Steelers should draft Jordan Davis and most people here said stuff like "You can't use a 1st on a 2 down player". Granted the Eagles took him before the Steelers had a shot at him, but I don't believe for even a second the Steelers would have taken him over Small Hands.

But yes, development and deployment are issues regardless of roster construction.

10/10 times I agree, but fact is Carter was, BY FAR, the top rated player in his class and he dropped to 10. That's a gift from the football Gods.

People spending money on billboards protesting sports team owners/management are the biggest losers on the planet.

I still stand by that this is the 1 time it may be effectual. Rooney is all about image and I still maintain the only reason Canada got fired was due to the chants at Steelers AND Pens games. It also became a national meme.

Not gonna lie, it's pretty smart for a guy who's trying to build a social media following. Got me to at least look up who he is. It's more marketing than protest.

A lot of Fields' throws towards the middle of the field were very short throws, he didn't use the intermediate and deep middle much. This table doesn't include his week 6 game against the Raiders (would only add 1 intermediate/deep MOF ball), but here's what the chart says:

In total, he ended up going 4/8 with medium or deep throws in the middle of the field in his 6 games.

I think this says more about how Fields was used than his ability, though. Tomlin was insanely conservative with him and they threw short about 75% of the time with Fields passing.

I’d never waste a dime caring to get Tomlin removed as much as I despise him, but I can’t disagree with the guy’s message.

There was also this:

The more AR2 is called out and embarrassed, the better.

I don’t subscribe to the theory Tomlin has a lifetime job.

It always starts with a little pressure and eventually the dam breaks.

This is starting to get to Pirates level bad

It is kinda a running theme last few years. Doesnt matter the qb, they are just not throwing there. It bears out in the turnovers, as we havent really seen many picks by our qb’s.
