Tomlin will have to make the call to bench Ben or not during the bye. If we indeed lose out into the bye week then I believe we have to start Mason and see what we have or don't have for draft clarity purposes. If he flames out, and the rumors are true that Colbert will retire with Ben, I have no doubt Colbert will draft or trade up for whichever QB Tomlin wants.

After seeing what Darnold is doing this year - and having no doubt it's legit based on how dominant he was in that pre-season game - we shouldn't be afraid to scour the trade market as well. We don't know who will be "on the outs"/available.

Minshew's an intriguing name (he should already be here to be honest).
Trubisky can at least run around - he is a superlative natural athlete at least - and would be better than any QB we have.
Rodgers will probably try to get Jordan Love outta tahn in Green Bay.
Goff may be available LOL.
But really the main shoe to drop is the outcome of the 49ers situation. If we could grab Jimmy G for a 3rd + 5th we should be all over it.

I don't get why Minshew isn't already starting for some team in the NFL. His stats are pretty good. He's definitely a good option for us.

It is frustrating seeing some FA options excel elsewhere. I guess the Steelers are still trotting out Ben due to loyalty, but he is not good enough to start in this league anymore and they should’ve made a more bold decision this past offseason. Also the o line is really really bad. I like Najee but I believe an offensive line is the foundation of a good offense and you have to build that out first. This org is in really rough shape, they’ve got so many holes, losing the heavy QB contract would help them patch some holes.

Very good post.

The 3 issues are QB, OL and the O Coordinator. From an organizational perspective the Steelers half-assed the solution to all 3 this offseason. Ben belongs on the golf course somewhere. Canada is a good but not great college coordinator who has no business at this level. For the OL, throwing a couple of mid-round guys were never going to fix the solution. As bad as AV, MP and DD were last year we were never going to upgrade with (insert 5th rounder here).

Moving Forward...
Be opportunistic about the QB position this offseason but realistically don't reach if you don't think "that guy" is available to you via draft or trade. Stick with Rudolph for a year in that case.

Fix the OL as priority #1, 2... for draft & free agency. Secondary - CB specifically as #3.

Let Juju walk. I probably, narrowly bring back Edmunds but it's a question of price tag.

Finally, on the Minkah extension - he's good but he's not a "blank check" guy. I think we got a little bit caught up in Minkah mania when he came here and was part of so many turnovers in the early going.

Steelers not only saw their NFL-record streak of 75 straight games with a sack end. They failed to hit Burrow even once as he completed 14 of 18 passes for 172 yards with three touchdowns and an interception.

Tomlin should be fired today, but wait let's keep him forever. . . What a joke.

Mikey’s got the injury excuse to fall back on this year. He’s safe.

There have been excuses for him ten years running now - not like it will ever change.

Lots of people around here are still in the denial and anger stages of grief about Tomlin Purgatory.

Imagine the kind of denial you have to be in to get angry they blow. Like they are going anywhere.

I thought they could be a playoff type team, but so far I’m pleasantly surprised things are going off the rails this early.

Also on the quarterback carousel thing...

Danny Dimes could likely be had, and I like him as much as any of these college dudes. That Oklahoma QB yesterday sucked from the parts of that game I saw. If he's the best guy, just pass on the whole QB class.

Honestly, I can’t see a game the Steelers will win for the rest of the season…maybe Detroit….they should at least see what they have in Rudolph…

If they can score 24 points on offense and the defense is healthy they can win 10 games. Denver Seattle Green Bay are all winnable before the bye. We get the Bears plus the division games Tennessee

Darnold ended up in a good coaching situation. Rhule could be the next great. If he’d come to Pittsburgh, he’d have been left to rot by Tomlin.

Ben is possibly the worst starting QB in the league. If this is all he can do, cut him. Let Rudolph play the rest of the year

Yeah people act like getting a new QB will solve everything. The HC, OC and DC are high school quality dumpster fire. No QB is coming here to develop into anything with these clowns
