I don't see what the big deal is :dunno: A professional athlete is competitive and wants to start. Frankly, I don't know that I would want him back if he didn't have that attitude.

There's probably also a bit of posturing for more money.
Hundred percent. People act like they wouldn’t do similar in their own profession/career.

or he could know that in Pittsburgh is the best place to be a backup qb. the fans will always think he will be better than the starter.

The fans already told MR what they think of him in August.

Doubt he's forgotten that, but again maybe he's a simple rube.

Yeah I don't think anyone is here saying MR is a thankless ass or whatever. I don't think his statement is anything people are taking issue with.

It's just the conversation followed that statement with "where could he expect to get that?" is all.

And yet those same fans were begging for to return on the foster show yesterday those same fans were chanting his name on Christmas. He knows he can have a batch like career with what he did the last 4 weeks

Charlie Batch went "back home" to have his "Batch career." Mason is from South Carolina, so maybe he signs with the Panthers but not to be their starter.

Hate to break it to you, these guys don’t give one f*** about what the fans think (nor should they).

Considering its been said by many athletes fan behavior has gotten to them and affected their mental health, I'm gonna go with a "you don't know what the f*** you're talking about" here.

But do go on how athletes are robots without any feelings.

Mason has come out and said that he was looking into starting a new career in commercial real estate after the season was over. He has already come to grips with the realization of where his career is, so he's definitely going to get after the bag as much as he can.

He also knows they will turn on him again if he has a couple bad games.

Let's stop pretending like the guy is stupid.

He'll be back if he doesn't get a better offer, but this idea he would love to come back and play for a coach that didn't believe in him and fans that treated him like shit is idiotic.

It will come down to money I'm sure, and if all things are equal there is zero chance he would want to play back in Pgh.

This. Whenever Rudolph comes up, it's accompanied by "don't expect him back, he's earned a starting opportunity somewhere".

Which always sounded wrong to me, so I wanted to work out what starting opportunities there'd be. And the answer isn't many.

And he should totally pursue one. And he should totally try and get the most money possible. And he should totally bail on the Steelers if he wants to and/or he gets a better or equivalent offer somewhere else.

I just don't see it. I don't see how Mason stands out against the large group of guys who will be on the market or who are already battling for jobs with teams they're under contract to. To me, it seems like his best opportunity to find a starting job is in Pittsburgh.

Cool dude. If the Steelers are his best offer, he’s not turning it down because fan discourse surrounding him on social media was negative at one point. JFC

Cousins and Mayfield will likely stay put.

Browning is a ERFA.

Then you have 35+ year old dudes like Tannehill and Flaco.

Basically the only attractive options left that aren't over the hill are maybe Minshew... and... Brissett?

Who said he would turn it down? Stop making shit up.

I wrote that all things being equal he's not going to come back.

Keep telling me how athletes don't care what fans think though.

We only have the best Qb in franchise history who has told us on multiple occasions he's bitter and angry about how the fans treated him, but believe whatever you want I guess.

there’s exceptions to every rule, of course a few let it get to them. Ben, while a great athlete, is a complete mental midget so not shocked.

Straight from the source, vast majority of these guys do not care about what you think. They are advised to not care and simply can’t - it’s unprofessional and affects their job. Have to tune out outside noise.

We all do. It’s called confidence. Why should I care what people who don’t know me and just speculate from the outside think? You can only control your effort and preparation.

The fact there is so much discussion/intrigue on Mason Rudolph returning shows how bad of a spot this team is at the most important position.

He’s becoming one of the most overrated players by fans. If he comes back, cool. If he doesn’t then go sign one of the other 5 Mason Rudolph’s that are going to be available.

On the roman show he said he was thankful for omar and Tomlin for bringing him back when FA sucked for him last season. He was ready to not play football anymore he knows this is his biggest pay day and wants to do business with the Steelers but also wants to test FA

Jerrod Johnson HOU QB coach (who had a cup of coffee with us as a player in 2012) is another name who I've been seeing multiple teams being interested in. He also satisfies the Rooney Rule. Could be agent-speak but given how much HOU exceeded expectations and the development of CJ Stroud, I'll be surprised if he doesn't get an OC job.

Glad we're bringing him in for an interview as he seems to be one of the hotter names in this hiring cycle, along with Zac Robinson. I'm reluctant to call him part of the "Shanny tree" as it looks like he was only there on a coaching fellowship for 1 training camp. Kind of light on experience but he must be interviewing well.

Coaching History:
2023 Quarterbacks Houston Texans
2022 Assistant Quarterbacks Minnesota Vikings
2020-21 Offensive Quality Control Indianapolis Colts
2019 Bill Walsh Coaching Fellow Indianapolis Colts
2017-18 Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator St. Thomas High School (Houston, TX)
2017 Bill Walsh Coaching Fellow San Francisco 49ers
2015-16 Assistant Coach St. Thomas High School (Houston, TX)

Very light on experience imo. Did he have any game planning responsibilities at Houston?

Yeah, most of us are on the same page here.

I meant Bradshaw, not Roth.

With more of an emphasis on mental health now, tons of athletes are admitting how fan behavior affects them.

That doesn’t mean they can’t do their job, as evidenced by Bradshaw’s career, but pretending it doesn’t affect these guys is naive and misguided.

Hopefully 9ers lose Sunday and they talk to Kubiak.
