In hindsight they should have paid him this off-season.

Now he is going to get paid more than he is worth. If that prediction is anywhere close to accurate, I hope that it is not the Steelers doing the paying.

Why? Harris is 1 of the many offensive issues that limits this team and his presence is sub optimizing the results. They made the right move not qualifying him and would be wise to not extend him.

He cannot make defenses pay for their mistakes. He still left a ton of yards on the field yesterday. As a RB2, you can't get better than Harris: he's durable, runs hard and doesn't fumble.

But Steelers need to look elsewhere for RB1. Warren sadly isn't it either. Might be some RB's coming on the market that fit this offense better or they draft 1.

And I could see a small chance of Wilson and Fields returning. The obvious suitors for Fields as likely as not will be taking a quarterback in the first round. Meaning that Fields would be second fiddle to the future there too.

Behind an aging quarterback who will be susceptible to injury might be attractive. Especially on a young talented team that likely has a nice window for the foreseeable future.

But Fields will certainly explore if there are better options first. Then, if the dominos fall right for the Steelers he would circle back and resign with them.

Harris is worth $6.5 million.

It could be argued the same thing happens even if it's just Russ back.

But really it's just me looking for ways to draft and develop a QB without having to take a 3rd round guy in the first. Which doesn't really happen (enough) either.

Not wrong. It's why I posted that their attitude to the future with Wilson on board matters more to me than the money. Still, having both would really nail it down.

*cough* Giants.

Judging Wilson after a Bengals game is about the kindest thing that can be done. After the Browns game, his stats looked ugly. It's quite possible the next Browns game does nothing good for his stats either. It's even possible that the Eagles-Ravens-Chiefs stretch of games just kills the idea we'd want Wilson back at all. I hope not, but if they regress back to their worst version under that version, we'll hear it.

That said, the bigger issue to me here is whether they are willing to draft a QB aggressively if they see their guy rather than how much money and term they're willing to give Wilson. I'm okay with giving Wilson a lot of money if I believe they'll put a QB in to cook if needs be, but if Wilson being here was to be a barrier than nothing less than being real deal any season any team SB contenders would make me okay with it.

I mean it was a blizzard and Wilson still put up strong numbers for the conditions (21 for 28 with 270 passing yards).

While Fields played well when he was in there, I think he played well for a backup. His issue of seeing the field and his downfield passing was extremely lacking. Just look at what Wilson is doing with the same players......

Fields is clearly in the top end backup category, imo. He will get like a one year 10mil contract at the most, like Sam Darnold. If he wants to sign and learn from an offensive genius, like a KC, SF. LAR, MIN it will be like a 1-2 year deal at 4-5mil.

Even with the dumb penalties (I thought the "gun" one was BS), Pickens helps way more than he hurts. They just have to convince him he is hurting the team with the unnecessary BS. His teammates like him and he wants to win. Porter simply needs to stop being so grabby. He is in position. He doesn't need to constantly grab. We don't have anyone on the team to replace either one of them though. They have to keep playing. And they won't be easy to replace in the offseason.

It’s been an issue since he was at Georgia.

I know he just turned down the UNC job, but I could see Arthur Smith getting another HC job opportunity somewhere too. Maybe even the NFL. A top 10 offensive unit comprised mainly of castoffs from other teams is some real “oil from stone” type shit.

He had a 75% completion percentage for 270 yards and a TD good for a 116.7 QB rating in the snow. He had the fumble, but that's about it. It was ugly for the offense as a whole because they couldn't run the ball effectively, specifically on short yardage, but Russ played well all things considered and his stat line was perfectly fine.

His only really 'bad' game statistically was the Ravens. You're right that there's a pretty big "so far" qualifier on there, but it's been a while since we've had a QB that could take advantage of mediocre or even bad teams. Things would have to get real ugly for me to not think that Russ is their best option going into next year.

Depending on what happens in Cleveland with chubbs. Najaee is going to be the best fa rb on the market and will easily get 9 million plus. Warren is kinda like brown for Cincinnati

Depends he can have a life time job here and not deal with anything other than offense he said his family likes it here

I will be fine with someone else paying him that. He is a compiler. He gets a lot of carries and thus a lot of yards. His efficiency sucks. He has no vision and no quicks to get to a hole even if he sees it. His strengths are durability, ball security, and good lean. I think he limits the offense as much as helps it.

He is also good as a pass catcher. He helped the offense a ton as a rookie with old Ben. He is like Montgomery Conner and Jacobs if they had a real speed back it would be perfect like a Singlton in penn state

Yeah, he is fine as a pass catcher. He isn't Bell but he is very solid. I just think his lack of explosion, lack of quicks, and lack of vision are real negatives that limit the offense.

Based on most recent extensions of Montgomery Stevenson Connor and Mixon

YPC of those people:

Montgomery 4.3
Stevenson 4.1
Connor 4.3
Mixon 4.3
Harris 4

Harris' stats. He STILL hasn't broken 4 ypc

And please tell me in what universe is Harris in the category of any of those dudes when you see the eye test and move past stats even?

Harris isn't even in the same f***ing stratosphere. Let someone else pay that shit. Harris makes about $3M on his rookie deal. And with Wilson coming for a huge payday this team can't afford be tied to a mediocre back.

Absolutely absurd comparisons

20 plus runs this season Mixon and Najee are tied at 4th in the nfl with 7.
No other guy on the list is over 3 he is going to crack 1000 yards again
Wilson isn’t getting a huge payday he probably takes a 2/50 Brady deal. Najee at 9 million is less than Issac is making at LG

That is called "Moving the goalposts" in terms of debate.
But I'll play along....

That's even more of an indictment on Harris' consistency. If he leads the NFL in 20+ runs, then you'd assume he'd be leading the league in rushing, no?

Wish they'd do a metric of "how many yards have RB's left on the field?" Because he'd lead the league in that too.

Funny there is "Bryan Rust is Mid" thread going on in these parts bc I could make the same case for Harris. Completely mid level. Throw stats out the window and tell me he's as dynamic as those cats you listed. C'mon now. You can't even start a debate on . And as I said, even if you want to do the stat game, Harris has only made it to the 4.0 ypc metric ONCE in his career. Surely an elite back can do better than that right?

Harris has dealt with a ton of single high safety stacked boxes because teams didn’t respect the passing game. He is 11th in rushing yards 100 away from the top 5 in the nfl this season no on is talking about paying Najee the 12 million Jacobs is making in Greenbay

I could honestly see both wilson and fields returning.

I could also, especially if they find ways to put Fields in positions where he's involved and succeeding. Him closing out games is perfect utilization for him.

The issue with Fields is going to be vision downfield and accuracy. If he doesn't get better there, a really good #2 behind a guy like Russ is a pretty awesome position to be in.

Again, you are not staying on track. Why are you referencing Jacobs in GB now?

And for the 100th time (not directed at you exactly), do you understand the word efficiency? Harris is 11th in rushing because....hold on, I'll type it in large letters for everyone HE GETS THE BALL ALOT.

Ergo, if you get more touches, you'll get more yards. This is basic math. Stop looking at aggregate yardage- it's completely misleading

He's at 4 yards per carry. No one else in the top 15 is less than him

Harris is a serviceable back who unfortunately due to his draft position has no business being just serviceable. There really is nothing more to say in my opinion.

With Warren getting healthier I'd suspect that the YPC goes up for Najee the rest of year.
