That trade ended up being a no contest essentially, unless Thomas can create some magic again at the camp and win a spot. It at least speaks well for our pro scouting staff, trading Kristo does not come back to bite them in the ass. Less so for the amateur scouting staff since he might never actually make it. But then he might not have helped himself all that much...

The Voynov situation has been resolved for the Kings/NHL according to Helene Elliott of the L.A. Times (twitter) he's pleaded No Contest to a misdemeanor charge of corporal injury to a spouse. He serves 90 days in jail and gets 3 years probation.

The misdemeanor means he also doesn't get deported and can still work in the States. Wonder if there will be further punishment from the NHL?

Ooops, apparently he could be deported. Defense is saying it's not mandatory, but prosecution might seek it?

All from twitter.

Please Gary Bman, grow some stones and have him banned for at least a year.

Oshie for Brouwer, Pheonix Copley, 3rd. And some people said that we'd needed to include Scherback

Oshie for Brouwer, prospect goalie and a 3rd....wow....

Brouwer is a pretty solid player, pretty obvious the Blues wanted NHL calibre talent back in any deal involving Oshie and the Habs had nothing to really offer.

The Habs don't have anything close to a Brouwer equivalent that they could have dealt to the Blues, so you can't just compare the trade to waht people might have thought Oshie would cost.

Great deal for the Caps. Teams in the east are improving and has of right now the Habs really haven't improved much. I like the Kassian addition though.

If the Habs make no more moves Price will have to be super human again next year for the Habs to make the playoffs.

Really thought we had a good shot at getting Oshie. Disappointed to be honest.

We might want to revise our players' Worth....The closest to this deal for us would have been Eller, Condon and a 2nd, 2nd to make up for the gap between Eller and Brouwer...Brouwer is more prolific, Eller is 3 years younger and faster.

Brouwer is a pretty solid player. Don't think the Habs have anything similar to give.

I'd do that personally.

That's a reasonable return, I'd be okay with that for a legit young top 6 player like Oshie. It would have the added benefit of forcing Therrien's hand with playing Chuck at the C position, which looks more and more like the only way he'll actually do it. I've always liked Eller but the benefits would outweigh the negatives there. Plec would have to take more D Zone assignment since you can't give them all to Mitchell but he's used to it.

Oshie must be so thrilled joining the likes of Backstrom, Ovechkin, Williams, Kunztesov, etc.

He's not exactly the type of player i am a fan of, but he'd be our 4th best offensive player, thats crazy.

Nope. How about neither Oshie nor Brouwer are as good as people think to begin with?

Gallagher, different player but similar production.

Not at all close on value though.

Brouwer is basically a PP specialist, he's not at all top six quality on 5 on 5 play. Meanwhile Gallagher drives the play on even strength. Its a significant difference in terms of value. Gallagher is a guy you send out to make a line significantly better overall, Brouwer is a guy you stick with much better players on the PP because he can sit in front of the net.

Plus the whole age factor.

You know when I heard about this trade I thought that Brouwer was in his 30s, but he's actually only 29, or 1-year-older than Oshie.

Oshie is definitely the better overall player. He's a much faster skater, and more skilled. But, since Lucic went West, it seems the West is powering up. Oshie is smaller.

I think it's a great trade for Washington. If Kassian ever gets to 20-40 maybe then he would be an equivalent to Brouwer. Right now, we don't have a Brouwer.

LOL!

Saw this as I tape Olbermann's show every weekday. Hilarious.

Olbermann's facial expressions are priceless. Not to mention the homerun calls he improvises over his "Keith Lites" -- a series of garbled, mangled run-in sounds whose tone seems borrowed from a 1940's prototypical broadcaster. Of course, he has a whisper-like play-by-play that he uses for golf sequences that is mostly a form of ridicule and introduces essentially what is not going on. Always a treat.

So, Alex Radulov. One more year in the KHL before he can make the jump back to North America or can he still do it before camp? I'm assuming the former.
