I ordered a drone that was shipping from China on Sunday (trying to beat the tariffs jacking up the price more).

He got into Kentucky and is currently holding. Thankfully its UPS not USPS.

I saw a UPS truck here the other day and got really confused, as that company doesn’t operate in Canada. They usually hand it off to Purolater or Intellicom (or whatever it is now).

I just told you, this isn't an indirect result of a policy that may or may not have impacted me.
I'm angry about a specific act of firing people without cause. It's political, because my wife is a fed, but if I were bitching about a corporate CEO firing people to give handouts to his rich friends nobody would have issue with that. I'm griping about a specific action, by a specific person, and it is only incidentally political.
Yea but "screw (you used a different word) anyone who supports this terror regime" plays into the idea that there is a regime that currently is enacting actions that are negative and anyone who supports any component of this regime can f off. I'm so sorry you are facing the situation you are, the hiring situation out in the US is not good right now (I'm sure you are aware).

It becomes political when you shift from being mad at a guy removing roles to "f anyone who supports the current regime". That's all.

Again, I am sorry for what you are dealing with - I never wish that on anyone

Ok, but if your boss fired you, and a bunch of people around you were cheering him on, you'd have a similar feeling. Like I said, it's incidentally political. The only issue I've even talked about, is the firings.

In other news, I spent a nice week in India for work a few weeks ago. What an interesting culture. Such giving people for having so little. It was a great experience and I can't wait to go back

Actually knowing different people is a huge thing.

My cishet white son who is a college junior has talked about how much anti-Middle Eastern racism he has seen at college. And a lot of it is from other kids of color.

My son sees it differently because he had a HS friend and lacrosse teammates who was Muslim and an immigrant from Turkey. His parents didn't speak English. But, Nate met them and knew they were really nice people.

It's harder to blanketly hate people when you know people in whatever group is being hated on in the moment.
Put all of these groups of people who hate other groups of people into a room and they'd either all kill each other, or come out of that room thinking 'hm...they're not THAT bad', haha.

Honesty, I feel for Muslim people. I've heard some wicked things said about them with all the stuff going down across seas. A nurse I work with wants to exterminate them all in certain regions of the world. "Bomb them all. I don't care about the kids" was the jest of what she was saying. Eye popping, hateful words. You should see her eyes when she talks about them. There is so much hatred and resentment. Freaky stuff.

Yea... I fell into my own trap here getting started on conversations.

They're hard to ignore. I'm hoping my replies aren't considered political, though some are loaded topics, but I'm sure we can all agree that racists suck, right?!

Racism, sexism, and any hatred based on uncontrollable genetics are awful and repugnant. It's shocking that MLK's famous words are forgotten - content of character folks!

I had half the country cheering on my firing.. took me years to recover if I even have now.

This is where the "college radicalizes kids" people miss the mark. It's not classes that make kids adjust their viewpoint, it's exposure to the people they've been raised to hate.

Come to think of it. Maybe we can all delete/edit our posts before Chain gets back. Sort of like hiding the weed/alcohol before the parents come home from a mini vacation!

I actually need Chain to remove whatever from my posts is not appropriate so I know what to avoid moving forward lol. If I get caught with the bottle of alcohol and dad takes it away I know which bottle not to grab again!

Ahh... I'm so jealous. I was supposed to go to India (Bangalore) a few years ago before the pandemic struck. I wanted to go so badly. Had made some friends via work chats, etc., that I wanted to get a chance to meet.

I would have taken a week or two of vacation after the work visit just to stay and do the whole touristy thing. :thumbu:

I remember once in high school we had a party at my house when the parents were out of town for the weekend. We had a blast, then spent most of Sunday cleaning up. When I got home from school Monday the fam had already returned, and I was immediately punished for having a party. How did my mom know? We were so meticulous. Bottom line, she found the family room cleaner than when she left it. She knew her lazy ass son (as far a cleaning goes) was up to no good. Grounded for two weeks.

My favorite travel blogger with not so kind things to say about his last trip to India:

That's Australia for me. Spiders the size of my head? Alligators (or crocs?) and a wide, wide, wide variety of snakes.

Nope. Just NOPE!! (I'm sure the people are wonderful, but NOPE!)

😱

What about king cobras, or are herps out of the list? What else makes the list?

In my own time, I've had different experiences but one that sticks out occurred close to my home. I was out walking the property and cutting across to go say hi to my neighbors ponies. He has a bunch of barn cats and it is not unusual to see them out in the field hunting, as cats do. I saw a few of them bunched up in a pile though, which was odd. They all were looking in the same direction, and being curious, I too took a look. About 30 foot or so from them was a really really big cat eating a gopher. I'm pretty sure that it was a jaguarundi. Almost convinced. It saw me and disregarded me and kept eating. Haven't seen it since, which would be maybe 5 years ago. And I don't know if I was scared but I was absolutely uncomfortable and did not want to hang around.

I will try to figure out how to reopen this thread after some initial moderation. In the meantime, I can assure you that it isn't just your content that got moderated - same as yesterday, yours wasn't the only content removed nor was it specific to one particular point of view. Feel free to take it to PM to me or any of the other moderators or admins. I'm sure we will all love to hear how you are the only person being persecuted when dozens of posts were removed even after a public direction to not continue.

As a refresher -

4) Threadjacking/OT/Politics: Posts that waste space or time on the site, annoy users due to characteristics or repetition, disrupt the site functionality, or cause threads to veer off topic may be considered “threadjacking/OT”. This also applies to signatures, user titles, avatars, profile fields, and so forth. Stay on topic as much as possible. Post new threads in the appropriate forum only. Political discussion is not permitted on the forums except within the narrowly defined scope of hockey-related matters.

Also in there is this -

7) Forum Management: Threads and posts that are redundant, in the wrong forum, or deemed unnecessary per the assessment of moderators are subject to being merged, moved, edited, deleted or closed. Thread titles must be as specific and informative as possible (no clickbait) and first posts must provide relevant commentary (“discuss” is not enough, for example). One account is allowed per user and you are responsible for what’s posted from your account. Please check the sticky threads at the top of each forum for any forum specific rules. If a moderator gives you a specific instruction in a warning, and you blatantly disregard it, you are subject to an account review.

That includes continuing to post things where you think you are somehow right and dancing along the line of what is or is not allowed. Having done this task for years, that's frequently been the sign of someone who is trying to troll or who knows what they have done is against the rules or direction but just want to keep on arguing about it publically. And by frequent, I mean almost always. Again, it isn't special and it isn't just about you. And for someone reading this right now and thinking "he's talking about me, that bastard!", yep, I am. It's just you and not the dozen or so posters and dozens of posts that got deleted or edited in the last couple of days... it's just you and especially your point of view. And if one of the others thinks it is about them or their point of view, you have to share or fight each other to the death. As a Scotsman portraying a Spaniard originally from Egypt once said - There can be only one.

And when someone posts something about "freedom of speech" know that I know you don't understand how that actually works. This is a private space with rules established for participation. You agreed to those rules when you signed up to participate in the space. Evolve, the mods and the admins are not a government and aren't retaliating against you about breaking the rules you agreed to when you signed up, we're just managing things within the constraints of the rules as agreed upon. And being free to put keys to page does not also say one is free from the consequences of such - if you troll, flame or heaven forbid decide to get public with a moderating action, there will be consequences that can result in loss of various privileges right up to getting your patooty banned.

@truthbluth

It sucks what you are going through and I hope that the collective action taken in the courts puts the kibosh on those terminations. Also, hope you find something soon. I understand what it's like to not have remotely enough coming in, especially with a family.

@Beerz

Sucks that you got sacked. What happened? I don't recall you mentioning it.

@Ehran and @CowbellConray

I had co-workers from India who I am still in touch with online. Good group of folks, some wild stories about things like one had his MIS and yet his village had no power. He road his motorcycle in to work every day and was part of a cycling group that would take long-distance rides with one another to different parts of the sub-continent. Real interesting appreciation for the differences in infrastructure between a developing and developed nation, for sure.

Also had a couple of teammates from North America who were regulars on training sessions to Bangalore. Travel budgets went away in 2008/9 though and from then on it was almost all remote.

@slip

His intro's sound like he's Jeremy Clarkson's understudy. I was fully expecting an "in a world..." in there.
