The Official Regret Thread

He would count less against the cap if he won the Hart? Why? :amazed:

It would have triggered the option but I think it was still the same cap number of just under $5 million. His contracts was one of the ones grandfathered in into the previous CBA where the Caps picked up part of his salary and that portion didn't count against the Rangers cap. It was only what the Rangers paid that counted. I think his total salary was 8 or 9 million.

Sad day when Graves left but he was finished as a player..That might have been the best trade value wise in NYR history..I think we got him for Troy Mallette?

Graves to San Jose is another move I didn't like. Mikael Samuelsson turned out to be a decent player 5 or 6 years later for another team and who knows what happened to that other minor leaguer in the deal.

Also, the Granato/Sandstrom for Nicholls trade. Granato was the late 80's/early 90's version of Ryan Callahan and I always liked Sandstrom and... Nicholls... meh....

Graves was traded in like 2001, he was pushing 40 I believe. Unless you're being sentimental, why was this such a terrible trade? Samuelsson was ok with the Rangers. Good with Detroit.

Right. Jagr would have then been playing under an option year triggered by the Hart from his Washington contract. That would mean his contract would carry a cap number less than his actual salary because of the salary split with Washington.

As a free agent Jagr wanted $7 mil / season. His cap hit from the option would have been, I think, $4.5 million despite getting $10 or $11 million in salary.

P.A. Parenteau and L. Korpikoski

Stats:

PA Parenteau 20 games 9 goals 9 assists 18 points

Lauri Korpikoski 22 games 6 goals 5 assists 11 points

Anyone of you feel the same as me that I hate to see these guys not in the Rangers tenue? Parenteau is obviously not a fluke, he is doing it again in another shirt and Korpikoski I personally like even more. I know Parenteau is obviously the better player but there is something about Korpikoski I just love, maybe similair to Hagelin? Was it worth to let these guys go or a mistake?

We traded Korpikoski for Lisin ......... Parenteau just walked out of the door if I am right.

I think it is a mistake and not a small one. Think of these two guys on the team.

Sorry if this has been brought up already then just lock it.

Korp is Sather's lone trade blemish in a long time.

Parenteau had no role on the team except shootouts. Considering how poorly he played when he did play, and the fact that the Rangers were coming off a non-playoff season, it was the right move.

The Rangers are Cup contenders, PAP plays for bottom feeders. Again, I think its folly for fans to think players who produce out of the NYC spotlight would have done the same here.

Think of the Rangers' identity -- tough, rugged, strong, size, grit -- PAP possesses none of those traits. He's a perimeter finesse player who can pass the puck. But he's soft and small and avoids contact.

No thanks.

For all the crap Gaborik and Richards get from this fanbase, both proved their worth in the clutch and did so while injured or slumping.

no great loss and there's no guarantee that either player would be doing those same things here imn this system.

we're not winning or losing because they are or are not in our line up.

The NYR have been wildly inconsistent this far , have a brutal PP , have rarely scored first , and have coughed up several late goals to not win in regulation . Hardly the makings of " a cup contender "
As for PAP , he is a legit scorer on any team has a great shot and hands and good vision. He is a solid playmaking RW and very good PP player . He hits the net with his shot . Not overly physical or fast is what got him in Torts doghouse . He's good at heat he does . As for Korpikoski he is a pro typical Torts player for this system fast , strong on puck , good two way , and not the greatest set of mitts but serviceable for a 3rd liner

Tyutin for Zherdev.
Korpedo-trade.
Not resigning Fedotenko (who I thought was our best player against the Debbies in the PO).

Could of course come up with trading Amonte and Zubov, but that's long ago.

Which RW out of Nash, Gaborik and Callahan would PAP push out of the lineup?

OTOH, I hated the Korpi/Lisin trade. Korpi still being here means the Rangers don't sign Pyatt.

No skin off my back. Every team has players they regret losing. Think Montreal would like McDonagh back?

Korp is probably the only genuinely "bad" trade Glen made. Would fit in with the team now too. He's not a huge loss but he would help us out.

Should have, would have, could have. That's the problem with gambles, you don't always win.

No point in worrying about it.

At the time glen traded korp to get more offense trade him for lisin who had more offensive upside.. The sad thing is lisins not even in the nhl and korp is making his presence felt for the yotes.. Wish we kept him.. PAP it's water under the bridge just wish we got something for him but he left before even proving himself so it's whatever good for him.. Def a late bloomer and making the most out of it

Their success with other teams doesn't necessarily mean they would've been successful with the Rangers. Different coaches, different teammates, different systems.

All of these. But that Miller/Ridley trade for Carpenter was one that really pissed me off.

Also not getting the approval to go to 15 million to obtain Gretzky in 87.

Oh, and the Manny Malhotra non-trade to Colorado.

Colorado was offering 3 of their 4 first rounders.

Should have taken the offer and with the later 1st taken a chance on a Mike Fisher or a Mike Ribiero. Could have had a young Gomez. Say all you want about him. 688 points in 916 games is what you want from a late 1st rounder.

Could have set this franchise up for a long time with that draft. Probably saves NS's job as well.

Yeah, I forgot about that Carpenter trade. That was terrible. He might've been the biggest Rangers bust ever and that takes some doing.

to make matters worse, he almost came back to haunt us further in 93-94 as a member of the NJD's as their defensive specialist on the 3rd/4th line and PK unit.

VERY VERY bad trade.

PA Parenteau is an offensively gifted player who has made a nice living putting up offensive numbers on bad teams. He lacks an all-around game and contributes to those teams being bad. I expect MZA to have a similar path if he ever comes back to the NHL on another team.

Korpikoski is a guy that could slot in nicely in our bottom 6. Although at the time the trade for Lisin was made, the organization had a dearth of bottom 6 players and virtually no high end offensive talent. I dont entirely blame Sather for making that move - I blame him for having the org in that situation in the first place. It just so happens that Enver Lisin was the dumbest player I've seen in my 25 years of watching the Rangers. Honorable mention goes to Dale Purinton and Ryan Hollweg.

So, Colorado is a "bad team" with 20 points in 20 games? I guess PAP would fit right in here, then, with our massive 22 points in the same 20 games. :)

You do realize he was an Islander, correct? Bad teams.

I dont think the sample size is big enough to call him a success with Colorado. So I certainly dont think this sample size is enough to call the Rangers or Colorado a bad team, yet.
