A thread for what could've happened but didn't. A player we didn't sign, a trade we didn't make, a guy we didn't draft, etc... Keep it real - no Bickel for Crosby trade suggestions, I'd like it be about stuff that was strongly rumored, talked about afterwards or actually happened. I'll start it off with a few:

1.) Signing Jaromir Jagr. I still don't get what happened here and the guy wasted 3 years in Russia while we got Gomez and Drury. He was paid (equivalence) less than either and was worth more than both. Loved the guy as a Ranger and he should've won the Hart in 2005-6 and was an absolute beast in the playoffs.

2.) Enver Lisin for Korpikoski. Pain.

3.) Messier to Vancouver. I blame both sides but they should've got this done. He was a disaster in Vancouver and the Rangers traded away a portion of their history.

Jessiman
Montoya
McIlrath
Korpikoski for Lisin
Rick Middleton
Ratelle and Park
Not resigning Verbeek
Resigning Messier
Etc etc etc

Parise and Giroux instead of Jessiman and Sanguinetti and Cherepanov not dying (although nothing we could've changed). :(

I hate to be callous but Cherepanov. Granted, him not playing for the Rangers isn't the real tragedy but I loved this guy. Must have watched those same highlight videos of him a hundred times.

letting prospal go for pennies... i thought he was one of the few guys that we've seen who had clear chemistry with gaborik and he was a big guy on the bench.

would've prefered giving up a forward over erixon.
The MDZ for Stamkos trade that fell through.
still think this was a joke between slats and tampa

Yeah it doesn't seem plausible, I almost hope it is a joke. Would be sad how close we came to having a generational talent on the team.

^ same for Leetch . Slats gave Mess the option to not be traded but didn't give the same courtesy to arguably the best homegrown Ranger there ever was of ever will be

You know I was happy when we traded Leetch because it signified a rebuild, and at the time I thought we would suck for another 20 years. However, we ended up with nothing from that trade. I doubt we'd get past the first round anyway but I wonder what a team with Jagr and Leetch (as old as he was he still had more than 0.5 points per game in 05-06) would look like in 05-06. Actually, with the standings so close, maybe we win the division and get a better matchup in round 1. Would have been nice for him to retire a Ranger too. Probably my favorite Ranger from the dark years. Seemed like he was the only guy scoring at times.

LOL...if you are going back to the 70's...may as well add Bob MacMillan to that list . He was a 1st round pick that went on to have some great years elsewhere .

Myself...trading Zubov .

Didn't we draft Mike Sauer with the second round pick from that trade?

Can't predict career ending injuries.

He would be a big part of this club right now.

Redden

Drury

Lisin for Korpedo

Letting Jagr walk

Sanguinetti over Giroux

Letting Zherdev go (hey, I like danglers.)

Montoya

Trading Leetch

Didn't realize it. Still ended up with not much at the end. However, if Sauer were healthy I'd take that trade considering how quickly Leetch retired after that trade.

Mattias Norstrom, that trade for some reason sticks in my craw all around.

Picking Hugh jessiman has to be #1.... hahahah we could of picked anyone in the draft other then him and they wouldv'e had success here...

Not signing Jagr... led to the bs below :(

Signing Drury, Redden.. Gomez I didn't hate the signing, way over paid but i liked his game, skating and carrying the puck.. A lot of fans here thought he was here to score goals, he was never a goal scorer.. We had no pieces to play with him... Should of signed Jagr and kept both to play together..

MDZ for Stamkos was unique when they had the trade in place..
I think Slats will get him one day via FA

McIrath pick instead of Tarsenko but He hasn't played yet, so time will tell..

lisin for korp (guy was like hags, could of flourished here)

not signing Prust, character guys like that are hard to find..

trading leetch..

holik signing...

the entire era from 1998-04 seasons

this can go on all day...
