I thought it was just the 1st, Girard and Bowers like the poster said. I forgot about the other parts of the trade. Nevertheless, you can't say the Sens 1st was worth more at the time of the trade than SJ's 1st is worth today. If you can play captain hindsight like that, I'm going to start pointing out all the other trades where we drafted a player with a pick we acquired. Like how we totally fleeced Dallas by trading Auld for Stone.
That's not using hindsight whatsoever....using hindsight it's obviously a landslide.

One is a cup favourite, the other a playoff bubble team at best. Which pick would you prefer? Obviously Dorion never knew how bad we were or he wouldn't have traded the pick, he viewed it as a 23-31st overall pick, which was a mistake.

We never fleeced Dallas, we had a fair trade and used our good scouting to get Stone. Maybe Dorion should stop trading picks like candy so we can let the only aspect of the organisation that is pulling it's weight in our amateur scouting staff do their job. Maybe if we actually traded Auld for Stone you'd have a point.

Again with the revisionism...... People forget how good we started the season. We were 2nd in the division, 8th in the league at the time of the Duchene trade (without Karlsson for the first 5 games), after coming off the playoff run the previous season. We were absolutely not considered a bubble team at the time. We were "the big boys" as Mike Babcock put it when we handily beat the Leafs in October.

What has San Jose done last year or the year before? Not as much as us at the time of the Duchene trade.

We literally had 6 wins in 14 games at the time of the trade. We were getting by by getting loser points (5 of them in the first 14 games...), something that is not sustainable, especially paying attention to the way we were playing. 47gf, 47 ga (12 of those coming in a back-back in western Canada).

So I guess the entire hockey world agreeing that the EK trade was awful while praising Sakic for the Duchene one means nothing, eh?

Oh, and guess what, any good team that trades for EK automatically becomes a contender, and their 1st pick loses value.

Yep, and the people who thought we were strong contenders for the Cup were not paying attention. A lot of us knew we were a bubble team at that moment and if management didn't realize they were potentially giving away a lottery pick, it says a lot about their assessment skills.

You could even see during our cup run how bad the team truly was.

We won't see a player carry a team like karlsson did that year for a long time.

Just saw this on reddit.

Damn, dorion. close your mouth.

Edit: click on the link. people are speculating that dorion was behind that burner account that used to support the sens.

Pretty sure ole Pierre has a burner on here, too.

Especially when you look at last years defense and add in the fact that you are counting on a 37 year old in goal. You can't count on 37 year olds. The wheels are always about to fall off. Add to this Karlsson returning from a serious injury.

The team had 1 legit top 5 defenseman and none if you don't count Karl. That's bad.

Wow, how can I counter such a strong argument. You got me there.
If by fine you mean one of the most lopsided trades in NHL history then yes, it was fine.
guess it was a bad reference

That Dorion Huckabee Sanders av is perfect. Every interview with him just seems dishonest and like he is covering for Melnyks cheapness. His answer to their tiny amateur scouting team was that “everyone gets their voice heard.” Bud you had 2 scouts for all of Europe

On the topic of scouts, I hate how much he repeats the "we'll spend for the right people" excuse. Do all the other teams in the NHL that have way more scouts than us just hire a bunch of random scouts without thinking? I don't think so. Same goes for all the other hockey ops positions in which we are lacking. It's such an obviously BS excuse for being cheap, they think we're a bunch of idiots.

To be honest Dorion needs to be fired.

I know our problems won't be solved without a new owner, but something's gotta give. There has to be SOMEONE out there who can do a better job than Dorion, even with Melnyk breathing down their neck.

People thought we were cup contenders? We were a bubble playoff team that could play anyone to a close game. That's not bad but it's not good. And then Dorion messed with the chemistry and gave up a likely mid round first that has now turned into a lottery first.

Did we build around Duchene and Karlsson and Stone? LOL NOPE JUST KIDDING REBUILD.

f*** Dorion. He should never be anywhere near a GM or AGM position ever again. What a f***ing disaster. It doesn't matter if Melnyk ordered the Karlsson trade. The return was pathetic. The stuff we give up to get players like Duchene is immense. Why give up so f***ing much? It wasn't the deadline. There was no pressure.

We needed to add talent if we were going to step up to be a better team, not swap talent even if it was an upgrade.

He should have been focused on fixing our terrible defense and goaltending, not swapping out the 1st line center spot.

Beyond Dorion's own ineptness in other ways, this was the one thing that kept biting Dorion from the Melnyk perspective is that he was always trying to fill one hole by using another because he couldnt have dollars in without dollars out but that inability to add without subtraction was just spinning wheels.

You wanna add Brassard? Great, but its mitigated by shipping out an almost equal player. Same goes for Duchene and Turris. Even a signing like Oduya could have been okay if he were properly located on the depth chart, but no he's put next to Karlsson because we couldn't properly manage the Methot situation or replace him adequitly.

Dorion really needs to learn when to get off the pot too, its not players like Karlsson, its guys like Smith and Condon that never should have beem signed to the deals they have. Those are the exact type of guys that elc's and free agent bargain bins are for, not 3 or 4 mil each.

Worst General Manager in the league IMO, the Karlsson trade cemented that but his moves prior have been crap as well
