He helps dogs, that’s his only redeeming quality.

He will quit long before he is fired , he will bail on the team.
After this year, AV’s $5M/yr contract is up. Torts will have 2 years left at $4M. The new mgmt love him and the plan is to move him up into the head office when he’s done coaching. He is never leaving. There is no rebuild, just more of the same.

Be scared the office hire his boy Rocky to be the next coach. The one with the amazing power play structure.

He won’t get canned this year. I can see him being pushed aside some time next season. If he goes to the FO, what is he going to do of value? He doesn’t have any administrative skills. I expect him to retire when the Flyers let him go. A return to TV would be highly doubtful. At least Melrose could be funny on occasion.

Torts has said he took the job on the promise of a front office role after. Hilferty is sleeping with him and Briere and Jones fight over sloppy seconds. He may decide to leave after next year but we are stuck with him forever.

Players regressing. Showing potential and not hitting it while being badly handled the whole time.
You live in fantasy land, every team has scouts who follow players in the CHL and AHL, no one though those players had enough potential to be claimed as rehabilitation projects.

Why are teams going to invest time and effort into trying to fix what the Flyers have broken? This is "if a player passes waivers then they're bad" level of bad logic.

Players get claimed off waivers all the time, by your definition, if they were waived, their team must have "broken" them.

Unless of course, they win. Victorious emperors remain in power, at least until they meet their Waterloo.

I don’t recall that promise. If it was made, it was silly. His behind the bench experience doesn’t qualify him for a move up in the management scheme. I can’t think of what he would have to offer to a FO. Such a move would just illustrate the sad condition of the FO.

Haven't seen that anywhere. Can't imagine it, maybe a senior advisor who calls in from his farm once a week, but Torts in an office?

I think with a collapse inevitable, Sullivan is going to shake lose from the Pens in a couple seasons, and he'd be the perfect successor to Torts.

I can't remember where I heard it, but Torts said something about looking for a front office role after coaching and that's why he signed in Philly. Let's hope Briere nixes it.

I mean, it's not like this would ever stop the Flyers from making a terrible hiring decision.

You just need one player or employee to leak a text or audio clip of Torts going off the rails, and he'll be out like Babcock.
Nope. Posted an article about Torts in CBJ, I think above, and the one thing all his players said, as tough as he was on them, Torts NEVER engaged in personal attacks. Always had the players' best interests, would insist that players take as long as needed to deal with personal problems, etc.

He's old fashioned, believes in tough love, but he's not an asshole like AV or Babcock.

He scratched two guys in their hometown games last season, one of which was the only healthy scratch, and only missed game, of the entire season for the player.

John Tortorella is undeniably an asshole.
