If Whit, Belt, and Hicks leave they can be replaced within the system. However, it will be difficult to replace Chapman within the system. I wouldn't sign him unless he's willing to be signed on a shorter term deal, so that means the Jays will have to go out in the offseason and get a third baseman.

Same goes for KK. If he leaves then go out and get a LF.
Yeah, there are plenty of options. Maybe you believe Barger is ready and give him the spot with Orelvis ready to step in soon, or maybe you make a trade to fill 3B.

I like that they have a lot of options to replace Kiermaier because they don't need it to be a CF... just move the other elite defender over there and bring in a corner OF.

I think at a certain point you have to believe in your ability to develop major league talent....if the goal is to be a consistent contender. That isn't to say you don't go out and sign a short term safety net at 3rd for next year or make a trade for someone but I don't think committing to Chapman long term is the right move. I don't think he will age gracefully either.

I’m fine with that for 2B or OF but not 3B. It’s easier to find replacements for the former than the latter.

As inconsistent Chappy has been all season, he is still 3rd in the league in WAR. That’s hard to replace.

Nolan is 32 and is owed $110M, Chapman is 30 and could get $120-150M, I don’t think that’s ridiculous to pay when some would be ok paying assets for Arenado.

I just think it is probably best off we accept the fact he will be gone. Sign a stop gap and/or develop our own internal option at 3B. It is personally what I think we should do but it also is just the most likely outcome. The market for Chapman is going to get stupid.

That's my worry. I could easily see a team offer 6 years at 30 million. No way I would do that.

There’s going to be some established player(s) on the market that the Jays will be in on to replace those upcoming free agents. Just spitballing with the whole Chi Sox situation but packaging Robert with Moncada to take on salary while also hoping/praying for a bounce back from Yoan.

Ryan McMahon in Colorado for 3B.

Colorado are dead last in the NL, 3rd last in MLB and nowhere near competing. McMahon is about to turn 29 and has 4 years/$56 million remaining on his deal.

They’d surely look at moving him if they could get enough of a haul, and both the contract and the player would be an absolutely perfect fit here.

I would like to keep all but will probably cost you $50M+.

Ideally you plug in Barger or Orelvis for Chapman, Varsho for KK, Horwitz for Belt, one or Cimber, Pearson, or Pop for Hicks and Schneider for Whit and not miss a beat.

Do we even tender Cimber? He's making 3.15 this year and arb salaries don't go down. He likely gets 3.5 million in arb. Coming off an injury and a horrific statistical year this year that seems a tad high.

Romano, Mayza, Swanson, Garcia, Richards, Cabrera are your locks assuming Cabrera's remaining option was burned this year(I'm not sure). Jackson has been good but does have options. Green has his weird train of contract options, Cimber is arb eligible. Then there's Pearson and Pop like you mention. Francis, Zulueta and Danner on the 40 man as well.

I feel like Cimber is a non tender.

If the Mets weren't telling the truth about the whole "we're not competing in 2024" thing then look out for them to offer Chapman something absurd.

Unless his injury is serious, I think they tender him or if they non tender him they bring him back.

Prior to this season he had the lowest ERA all time for Jays relievers. He can get righties and lefties out. I think we spent $5M on Yates who had failed a physical in 2021, $3ish million isn’t a bad bet on a guy like Cimber. He also has options.

As we saw this year, you can never have enough pen arms. I think we legit used at least 15 guys in big spots.

Angles are about to lose again. The only teams that have a shot at catching the Jays are Red Sox, Mariners, and Yankees.

Yanks are trending in the wrong direction and their rotation sucks outside of Cole. They can't hit either. Not worried about them at all.

Red Sox are getting some of their injured guys back which will help but after this two week stretch their schedule gets very difficult.

Mariners is the team the Jays should be the most worried about. Their rotation is very good but the bats have struggled.

Crazy how the Angels bought and the Mariners sold. And it’s not like it was a month ago - we’re 6 days out from the deadline.

I am not that worried. Jays are only ½” game back of Houston. If they overtake Houston, Seattle and those other teams will become Houston’s problem :D

So if Seattle is in play, why aren’t the Jays in play for Tampa? 4 games back of them for the 1st wildcard. That’s where our sights should be at. If you’re worried about Seattle, then Tampa should worry about the Jays too.

My point was, Jays have a very good shot at making the playoffs because the teams chasing them, other than Seattle, don't have much of a chance.

Like you said as well which I should have mentioned, the Jays could pass Houston and potentially the Rays.

2019 Yates is a different beast from 2022 Cimber. Plus that was a no brainer as the Jays bullpen depth was so so bad.

Blue Jays have these RPs under control for next year:

Romano
Green
Mayza
Swanson
Garcia
Richards
Cabrera
Jackson

Not to mention Pearson, Francis, Danner, Pop, Zulueta, Juenger, Fry, Wick, Cooke, Fluharty, etc, etc.

Disagree. Cimber is extremely useful and you can never have enough relief depth as we saw this year. If we are trading Cimber then that’s one thing but to let him go for free, then it’s a non starter for me.

Jays didn’t sign Yates after his 2019 season. They signed him after his 12 ERA 2020 season.

Jackson is turning 36 and is having a career year. Green has yet to throw a pitch in 2023. Im not penciling those guys in for roster spots in 2024 just yet.

Yes but we’re referring to what they can potentially provide. The Jays were looking for some return to form similar to Yates’ years previous to 2020. You’re banking on Cimber returning to form similar to his years prior to 2023. Hence why I said 2019 Yates vs 2022 Cimber.

The depth between 2021 Jays pen and 2023 Jays pen is unmatched. Cimber’s been declining and wasn’t missing any bats this year. Jackson isn’t even pencilled in for a pen spot next year and I listed 10 names that could compete for a spot in ST. Green, while having not thrown a major league inning yet, has done what is needed through his rehab so far. Plus I feel way more confident with his ability and pedigree compared to Cimber.

Yeah I think you decline the option year with Whit. Try and get like a 2 year deal at like 12ish per. Maybe some kind of option on a 3rd year if that pushes it across the line.
I really want them to give Clement a chance so we can see if he can be a Whit replacement. Clement at 2B, Schneider at LF in 2023? Horowitz can play DH and replace Belt. Varsho full time CF. Ryu will walk. But Re-sign Chapman imo. 5-6 WAR is way too hard to replace. Barger will make the team as a bench bat. Hicks is the biggest wild card.
