Another college outfielder Braden Barry in the 8th round, and Canadian HS outfielder from BC Sam Shaw. Neither of these players with alliterative names were ranked by MLB.com

Sam Dykstra loves the Jays draft;

Pick 20 (121st overall), Blue Jays: Landen Maroudis, RHP, Calvary Christian (Fla.) HS (No. 72)
Calvary Christian boasts three pitchers ranked among MLB Pipeline’s top 150 prospects with Liam Peterson (No. 85) and Hunter Dietz (No. 141) still waiting. Maroudis is the first off the board, thanks to a fastball that can touch 96 and an above-average changeup. Supremely athletic at 6-foot-3, Maroudis also starred at short in the prep ranks but could take off as he focuses on pitching.

Pick 20 (184th overall), Blue Jays: Jace Bohrofen, OF, Arkansas (No. 66)
Entering 2023, Bohrofen was known more as a Cape Cod League standout than he was for his performance at Oklahoma (2021) and Arkansas (2022). He became a regular performer for the Razorbacks this spring, hitting .318/.436/.612 with 16 homers in 60 games. His above-average raw power will be what plays best in the Toronto system.

Pick 20 (214th overall), Blue Jays: Nick Goodwin, SS, Kansas State (No. 163)
Goodwin doesn’t boast a true plus tool, but he’s been a solid three-year starter in the Big 12 and helped his stock with a good showing in the Cape Cod League last summer. He projects for 15-20 homers with a good walk rate in the pros, and while he’s improved at short, he might be better as a bat-first second baseman in the Toronto system.

Not too good buddy! How is Ryan Cusick doing? Will Bednar? Cam Collier?

What's Chase DeLauter up to? All tools and no hit still?

Do you think there is something to the Jays targeting top-ranked "fallers" yet? Considering that it's 3 years in a row now after Barriera last year and Nimmala yesterday? Are we at enough of a trend?

Gavin Williams is doing pretty good. So is Anthony Solomemto, thanks.

Also, difference btw us bud, is I don't come in here telling other posters why they shouldn't have opinions that differ from consensus or front office decisions. The front office and "experts" are just as liable to make bad picks as a guy on a message board because the draft is a crapshoot.

Maybe learn a little humility instead of telling other posters why they shouldn't/can't like or not like a pick, or think for themselves because some expert said so.

One thing that brings me confidence is the front office have signed all of their top ten picks in previous years.

Yeah one would assume they knew everyone was signable when they took them which is their MO. Unless Bohrofen got to them in the 6th round and they loved him so much they changed their plans on the fly, or he became their backup plan to someone else but teams usually wait until the 11th round for that(doubt he lasts til then).

I'm curious to how it's going to work.

I have no reason to doubt them but it does seem like an uphill battle to lock them in. Losing the 2nd rounder and that bonus pool hurts. Man if the front office gets all these guys done with our pool our draft imo was a home run

Did Romano get hurt when he threw that Gurriel moonshot pitch ? I know it’s the ASG and pitching changes happen quite often, but, that was weird seeing him get pulled mid batter.

Obviously ranked players mean nothing but if you evaluate drafts based on MLB.com's top 250 prospects, the Jays may have just had their best draft in terms of draft picks owned in this regime's history.

1. 2023: 6 ranked players with 1 pick in the first 2 rounds
11. Arjun Nimmala
66. Jace Bohrofen
67. Juaron Watts-Brown
72. Landen Maroudis
163. Nick Goodwin
164. Connor O'Hallaran

2023 Draft Table to see who signs: 2023 MLB Draft Tracker

Low Down: These players were taken with the Jays first 6 picks meaning they will all likely sign. To get 6 ranked players, 4 in the top 75 along with 2 being high school players without a 2nd round pick is somewhat remarkable.

Some links evaluating the Jays draft:

2. 2019: 8 ranked players with 2 picks in the first 2 rounds but only 6 signed
11. Alek Manoah
54. Kendall Williams
81. Will Robertson
103. Dasan Brown
104. Tanner Morris
139. Phil Clarke
149. Nate LaRue (didnt sign)
188. Connor Phillips (didnt sign)

Other notables; Spencer Horwitz and Andrew McInvale

Low Down: Probably the Jays best draft if Manoah bounces back. You got a starting pitcher, a potential CFer in Brown, a low end MLB 1B in Horwitz and used Kendall Williams and Andrew McInvale to land Ross Stripling, Adam Cimber and Corey Dickerson.

3. 2016: 6 ranked players with 3 picks in the first 2 rounds but only 5 signed
28. T.J Zeuch
66. Zach Jackson
83. J.B. Woodman
90. Bo Bichette
168. Josh Palacios
189. Kyle Weatherly (didnt sign)

Other notables; Cavan Biggio, Josh Winckowski, Jake Fishman, Shea Langeliers (didnt sign) and Kirby Snead

Low Down: Maybe another contender for the Jays best draft but only because of Bichette. Top 3 picks dont look good but it gets better. Grabbed your best player on your current team in Bo Bichette. Former starter in Cavan Biggio. Turned JB Woodman into a very productive Aledmys Diaz then lost points trading Diaz to Houston for Trent Thornton. Also turned Winckowski into a very good 1 year of Steven Matz and Snead was a part of the Chapman deal.

4. 2021: 7 ranked players with 1 pick in the first 2 rounds but only 6 signed
22. Gunnar Hoglund
91. Ricky Tiedemann
118. Irv Carter
172. Luke Holman (didnt sign)
210. Chad Dallas
237. Trenton Wallace
245. Damiano Palmegiani

Other notables; Hayden Juenger

Low Down: Not a great draft but got value out of Hoglund when you thought his value was low but it turned out to be his highest as he is really struggling with Oakland. Hoglund was the centerpiece for Chapman, Tiedemann is probably your 2nd best MLB pitching prospect in the last 8 years to Manoah. Dallas, Juenger, and Palmegiani look like real prospects. Carter is still raw but he pro start has not looked good.

5. 2017: 6 ranked players with 3 picks in the first 2 rounds but only 5 signed
27. Logan Warmoth
35. Nate Pearson
41. Hagen Danner
73. Riley Adams
91. Kevin Smith
131. Daniel Ritcheson (didnt sign)

Other notables; Ryan Noda, Ty Tice, and Zach Logue

Low Down: Not a great draft either but found some value. Pearson is finally showing some of his potential. Danner is still a potential legit pen arm. Smith and Logue were traded for Chapman. Noda looks like a solid player for Oakland but he was traded with Kendall Williams for Ross Stripling. Riley Adams was turned into Brad Hand but Brad pitched like he didnt have hands.

6. 2018: 6 ranked players with 2 picks in the first 2 rounds but only 5 signed
31. Jordan Groshans
43. Adam Kloffenstein
50. Griffin Conine
85. Sean Wymer
104. Kameron Guangorena (didnt sign)
143. Addison Barger

Other notables; Vinny Capra, Nick Allgeyer, Cal Stevenson and Damiano Palmegiani (who didnt sign)

Low Down: Contender for the Jays worst draft. Groshans looked good early but could never develop power but was turned into Pop and Bass. Conine was turned into Villar which may or may not have been a good thing. Wymer isnt playing baseball. Only saving grace is Kloffenstein and Barger. Barger can be legit and Kloffenstein could be heading there. Capra had a good stint with the Jays but was turned into a useful 3rd catcher in Heineman. Cal Stevenson looked to be the one that got away in the Sanchez, Biagini and Fisher deal but has since been traded 5 times but made the majors with Oakland last year and again this year with SF but is now in the Phillies system. Jays got Fisher who shown flashes but was overall bad, then turned Fisher into Paxton Schultz who looks to be a 9-10th starter in AAA.

7. 2020: 4 ranked players with 2 picks in the first 2 rounds all 4 signed
2. Austin Martin
39. CJ Van Eyk
98. Nick Frasso
114. Trent Palmer

Not a notable but it was only a 5 round draft so might as well include the last pick, Zach Britton.

Low Down: Woof. Great thing is the Jays got great value out of Martin turning him into Jose Berrios. Jury is still out on Van Eyk and Palmer. Van Eyk has good numbers but he is turning 25 and playing in A ball. Palmer looked legit last year but is out for the 2023 with Tommy John. He will be 25 next year and only pitched as high as AA. Both probably arent making an impact in the majors. Frasso could be the crown jewel but he was moved with Brito for Mitch White and Alex De Jesus. Frasso looks lights out but has struggled recently. White striggled last year but looks much better and De Jesus and Brito are having great years. Brito is still very young and fair away.

To Be Determined:

2022: 5 ranked players with 4 picks in the first 2 rounds all 5 signed

15. Brandon Barriera
35. Ticker Toman
55. Cade Doughty
67. Jose Kasevish
175. Alan Roden

Other notables; Mason Fluharty

Low Down: Jury is still out. Needs to be a great draft for the Jays. This will go a long way if the Jays can get 2 impact guys from this group which will help the next wave.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred met with the mayor of Oakland to discuss possible stadium plans designed to keep the Athletics from relocating to Las Vegas.

Mayor Sheng Thao requested and was granted a meeting with Manfred before the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Seattle, she told multiple media outlets.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported Thao presented Manfred 30 bound copies of a report she wanted all MLB team owners to see, detailing negotiations between the city of Oakland and the A's, including a detailed timeline. Thao wanted a complete outline on the failed Oakland negotiations to be shared before owners voted on whether to approve the Athletics' relocation to Las Vegas.

"I did feel it was important to meet with the commissioner in person, given the importance of this upcoming vote by the relocation committee," Thao told the Chronicle. "This decision isn't just about business. How they vote will have a lasting impact on a multi-generational fan base of working families who love this game of baseball and have a deep connection to the Oakland A's. Before undertaking this very consequential vote, I wanted the commissioner and the MLB owners on the relocation committee, and all the owners, to have the true facts, so they can make an informed decision. I continue to fight until the shovel is actually in the dirt."

The Athletic included links of the documents Thao presented to Manfred, including the summary of terms, infrastructure financing plan, preliminary development plan, design guidelines and tentative tract map.

"For me, it was very important that [Manfred], and not just him, but the [league's relocation] committee and the owners had a copy of all that we are presenting, for transparency purposes," Thao told The Athletic. "Through the press, we have heard that Manfred has stated there was no proposal. We wanted to dispel that notion. If people were misinformed, we wanted to make sure everybody had all the real-time information of how close we were to a ballpark."

Thao said Manfred's comments and other public sentiment chiding Oakland for not having a stadium proposal at hand were false.

She said the relocation proposal could be voted down by owners, and Oakland would be ready to move forward with plans to keep the team. Las Vegas would then likely be in play as an expansion team. Manfred said the league will begin discussing possible expansion from 30 teams to 32.

He spent 5 full years as a Jay including being on the 2015 and 2016 teams?

It was crazy how quickly his career ended though - lights-out in 2017, pretty good in 2018, finished by 2020.
Didn’t ‘Ol Smoaky go to Japan for a bit?
