I'm pretty sure most people who have performance based bonuses have been in a position where they just missed their target and company said "meh you were close enough, here's your bonus...just don't tell anyone else we did this for you"

Remember that Slaf is bound by the NHLPA - NHL CBA. Don't think it can work that way...

Bonuses counts against the cap, so that wouldn't have panned that well.

Habs will probably get hit by cap recapture next year, it's not great but c'est la vie.
