HF Habs tank thread tonight:

Great great night for the tank! Looking like a lock we'll get 1 of Lindstrom, Demidov or Catton and either will make us a better team.

Personal favorite (apart from Cellebrini) would be Cayden Lindstrom. A 6'4 215 pound BC boy that can score goals would really round out or top 6

We will finally have 3 big guys playing in the top 6. With Dach, Slaf and Lindstrom. Our rebuild could also end great with Celebrini. He would easily become our best forward in 3 years.

With their win tonight, Arizona ties Montreal in points, but Montreal holds a game in hand (once the loss to Calgary is finalized).

Ottawa will be one point back with 2 games in hand.

Blue Jackets are 3 minutes away from beating SJS.
If we could get to 6 or 7 going to make big difference than 8. As we may pass Pitt. I know one of Catton or Lindstrom will be there. Hopefully Lindstrom! Number #1 defensemen usually going higher than expected. Top 10 in this draft is stacked with such defensemen. You know at least one will go higher than expected causing a forward to slide. Celebrini, Demidov I expect are first forwards to go. Along with at least 3 d-men, hopefully 4? There a chance Lindstrom there at 7.

I never seen a draft like this in 45 years of studying drafts.

I fully agree. Very open draft. I would not be against taking an elite Dman though if they feel he is BPA. Levshunov Buium seem great in the NCAA. Dickinson seems vey good too from what I read and of course if they think Parekh skills will translate to the next level, you can t pass on him.

Yup... BPA always. It seems like we're stocked with future D, but until the results translate to the NHL we really don't know what we have. Never pass up superior talent.

Time is about upon us. I'm looking at the D as Guhle being a 2D, and Xheraj a 4D possibly. So we need a 1D and 3D and the identified top candidates are Hutson, Reinbacher and Mailloux. And all 3 of those guys will be here soon, and fighting it out for spots next season. I know they will need time, but we will start seeing whether any are able to fill the 1 and 3 slots.

Ottawa plays one of their games in hand today, but it's against Hurricanes at 6 pm. Really Ottawa's only chance is the fact that the Hurricanes played less than 24 hours ago against the Leafs, and are too tired.

I'd consider one point a win. A point by Ottawa still drops Montreal to 6th based on gp.

Blue Jackets also have a tough opponent. They host the Jets. That game is also at 6 pm.

Pens host the Red Wings, who finally won a game and are playing for their playoff lives. This game is also a game in hand for Pens. They'll be tied in GP with Montreal after today. Pens are 6 pts up.

Given the fact MTL is one of the worst Ds in the league right now I think you overrate the young D core.

It takes a D about 4 years of pro hockey to develop his game. Generally speaking.

Guhle has been playing over 20 minutes a game from the beginning and he is paired with a guy who I wouldn't call a defensive stalwart in Matheson. Guhle has looked pretty good and this is only his 2nd year. Ideally we would have a PK , Markov kind of pairing but that's not in the cards, so it will be more about 2 guys complimenting each other. Guhle being on the defensive side.

As to Xheraj , I said possibly a 4 ( with upside ) and I don't see that as being fantasy. Again, onlyv2nd year for him.

As for Hutson , Mailloux and Reinbacher I said we will see. Can Hutson be a Ribiero on D ? A smallish guy who has slow straight away speed but is able to carve around guys and still produce? Can Mailloux bring more than a shot offensively ? Don't know. Is Reinbacher an all around Desjardins kind of guy ? Don't know, hope so because he was 5OA.

So big questions for sure. If nobody can fill spots 1 and/or 3 from our pool over the next few years then that's a significant problem and will stall our rebuild unless we can pull off a pretty significant trade without gutting us at our top 6C.
