I don t know about that MTL is dropping like a stone right now :D The question is whether the amount of injuries Habs got is really bad luck or if they have injury prone players
They got injury prone players, that's why they only paid picks to get them. The only salvation for this team is to develop their picks better than the other clubs do it. So I expect more lottery picks in the next few seasons.

I will rarely say that for one player but if somehow we get Macklin Celebrini. I think we are becoming a playoff team overnight and might start a contenting window as soon as next year.

I think we could start becoming aggressive in getting star players from free agency or trades.

I 100% see a big offseason move.
I’m hoping it doesn’t involve trading our 1st tho 🙏
But they’re gonna wanna push for playoffs next year, so trade other picks, excess D-men or UFA signing….we will improve this summer.

Yup
This is by far THE biggest and most crucial offseason of the rebuild for HuGo

I honestly can't wait, because SOMEthings gotta give on the trash we want to get rid of, even if we have to force it

And no matter what, only youth and talent is going to be getting injected into the NHL roster moving forward

Nope! Celebrini alone won't make us a playoff team. Definitely not on his first year with us. We probably will be drafting in the 9-12 position ext year with him.

Celebrini is probably one of the youngest player on his draft.

Projecting in the future, and base on conservative projection, I think you are looking more at this if you want to have a winning team:

Slaf - Suzuki - CC
XX - Dach - YY
Newhook - Beck - Roy

Player XX can be someone from this year.'s draft like you suggested. And I think YY would be someone traded like Dach/Newhook. Now, Newhook and player YY/XX can be interchangeable, but Roy's (while he impressed me a lot so far) I feel he will be better suited for a 3rd line role with good linemates.
Slaf Suzuki cc are not a top line on a cup winner. Sorry.

I disagree. First it's not just Macklin. It's Dach coming back and having this current version of Slafkovsky from the 1st game. And all the young player having one more season of NHL experience.

The margin of victory is very small and Macklin Celebrini is not far off as one of the best 18 years old ever. He is not Crosby but I could see a MacKinnon like debut. He is such a good all around player. Having 3 top centers is something we never had since 1993.

I'd like a more accomplished left winger with Slaf and Suzuki.
Caufield would be better served further down the lineup.
I feel so too (right or left?). Habs have a luxury pp guy and a offensive middle 6 winger in CC but nothing along the boards or on soft-dumps really ever works. Elite 1st line RW is surely a prime ufa/trade target. Habs might actually have enough bodies beyond if Dach CC Newhook are a good fit.

No? Habs got to the Cup final with Suzuki, Caufiled and an inferior linemate. If the other scoring line is as good as the Suzuki line and the d is as good as we think they will be the team will be good enough to win a Cup.

I don't see us making the playoff with Dach and Celebrini yet. After 2 back to back injury for Dach, I'm kinda getting scare for him. We also lost Monahan + trade deadline. We are probably going to be on the same spot as Pittsburgh or Caps. Fighting for a playoff spot. At best, we take the last place for the playoff.

The thing is that they could even bring back Monahan. They have the cap space.

The Habs next year will also lose 50 games worth of Monahan. Big loss.

Ok fair, but i estimate that as being a 10% outcome.

Too many “maybes” on the 2nd line.

Newhook - rookie Mack - recovering Dach

I’d push that optimism back 1 season.

Having said that, Hughes could trade for an upgrade on Newhook, Dach could quickly return to form, and Mack could have a great rookie campaign. … and 3rd line C? Healthy Dvo? Beck?

Still more question than answers next season, even with Macklin.

Why 10%? Stats is meaning less in that peticular situation it's just personal opinion.

There is a lack of ambition that I sense from a lot of people. Even this year, the team underperformed to their ability because of injuries mostly and irregular goaltending performance. Add a near generational talent like Macklin on a entry level deal is a true game changer. They could even try to go for the big fishes on free agency like Reinhart or trade for Zegras. I am all about being conservative in our estimate or hope but the foundation has been set at some point it's knowing when to push for it and stop enjoying being in perpetual mediocrity.

This core would be set: Mack, Suzuki, Dach, Caufield, Slafkovsky, Guhle.
Also developing players like Xhekaj, Newhook, Roy, Struble
Add new blood like Mailloux, Reinbacher, Hutson, Beck

The table is set.

I will burn one of my 7 Gallagher jerseys if he causes us to get points.

(The same thing goes for Armia and Colin White, although I only own 6 of their jerseys.)

Just tuned on for the 3rd period. I found myself cheering for us to score to take the lead with 9 minutes left.

Nope, go Devils. Keep this thing from going to OT.
