If Montreal is still a bottom 5-10 team in 2030, then we have a much bigger problem.
There won’t even be ice anymore…

Incidentally it’s just in 6 years, a summer 2026 draft pick could just barely make the league in 2030 lol (say they tank again next year and the kid goes to college)

Try hé tank is strong this year but will end next year ! Either with signing at the end of the year or the trade and extend of Crosby :)

Call me Nostradamus if it happens hahahah but since it was reported last year he likes to retire as a hab and with the penguins competitive years coming to end , I have a strong feeling he would be the vet the habs brass bing in .
So habs compete in the 25-26 season

We had Kovalev, we had Radulov, we had Kovalchuck but man, having Crosby would be the cherry on the top. Can't wait it happens and I think Syd will play great for his age. He doesn't age like milk I can say.

They have been in a Schrödinger Rebuild since their last cup in 2014. Only managed to make the playoffs 4 times, never managed to go pass the 1st round.
They hired the destructor mb . I wonder how much he had with picking up Dubois ! He has had a hard on for him since his draft year

Well that's a very bold take, I definitely wouldn't. Hell I'm taking Lindstrom over Will Smith with ease.
I don't think I would. Lindstrom has a mean streak and decent tools, but I'd still go with Smith or Carlsson, or Leonard, or Michkov before him.

Would I go with Benson before? Probably too...

Remind what winning culture we had before? Was Deharnais and Paciorrety instilling our win at all costs culture? Or was it subban and markov? Price? Or was it Gallagher *the warrior* who instilled this incredible winning culture around the Montreal Canadiens organisation.

Those teams won sweet f*** all , they were awful, bottom 5 rosters on paper , joke of a roster league wide where every other fanbase would point and laugh at us lmao. I DONT WANNA HEAR IT.

*winning culture* :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Bailed out by a goalie for a decade isn't winning culture. Yall should thank god monty is not Price because we would still be spinning our freaking wheels in no mans land this season.

Tank is on and it better be on next year too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clearly people here don't wanna win a cup , its so obvious.

You just want to be entertained on a Wednesday night in February with a underdog win like we've been doing for 20 years , I get it , But you ain't winning a god dam stanley cup like that.

REBUILD

Sorry for the rant but I can't take these winning culture posts when we've been a organizational atrocity from top to bottom for years.

Remind me last time habs had a top 6 you weren't absolutely embarassed by when comparing to other teams in the league :laugh:

I love this post, truth from top to bottom. The only way to do this rebuild the right way is to be patient and let pieces develop and expire properly but there are so many people who think they are entitled to be entertained.

That's the problem with real life too, the ingrained sense of entitlement in society, but I digress. People need to realize that there is a very well thought out framework for success in place and we are starting to get somewhere with it. Now isn't the time to suddenly try to make the playoffs because some fans don't have anything else to do but hate on everything cause they have nothing else going on.

I applaud HuGo for having the wherewithal to build properly while dealing with an extremely impatient and entitled group of fans, I'm sure it's not easy. It isn't even easy to read it.

Hey there I can totally get where the “tank two more years” crowd is coming from, but you’d have a hard time convincing me pro hockey serves any other purpose but to entertain. Not sure where the entitlement rant is coming from lol did you just get divorced or something?

Oh well here I thought the whole purpose of professional sports was to win a title. I guess since the purpose is to entertain you they are indeed doing it all wrong, you've won me over.

Not that it deserves the digital ink or time to respond but what in the hell does divorce have to do with entitlement? I don't follow any of your points, I'm still married, not that it matters one bit, this is the internet, I could be 16 years old for all anyone knows.

Anyways you're not alone with the posts demanding to be entertained, they're all around Habs forums everywhere. That is the entitlement I'm talking about, I didn't think it was that cryptic. Doesn't really matter though if you aren't posting about it there will be many others who will so have at it.

Do we play again this year or are we done? What a stupid schedule

We are very likely competing for a playoff spot this year if Dach doesn't get injured. He really needs to stay healthy for Montreal to take a step forward.

Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkovsky, Dach, Newhook is a decent start. Hopefully one of Roy or Beck can make the team. I don't expect our 2024 1st round pick to make our lineup unless we somehow draft Celebrini.

It's going to depend on the growth of the kids because the 2024 UFA season pretty much sucks. We could bring back Monahan.
Dach back next year, draft a Lindstrom or Demidov and we trade for a top player this is real good team.

Just playing out the string. Sucks! Most games won't be able to stomach to watch. Roster with 3-4 AHL talent, Condotta, Gignac, Stephens. Some washed up has-beens filling in time, Pearson, Gallagher

Alright! And, we're back!

Montreal @ Washington. Newhook isn't playing tonight, so our lineup will be a real tough one. First game back from a long layoff for both teams.

Washington is only 3 pts up on Montreal; however they have 2 games in hand.

A win for Washington puts them 3 pts out of a playoff spot. All Metro teams are chasing Philadelphia in the #3 spot. Both WC spots are going to Atlantic teams it looks like. Caps have 3 games in hand on Philadelphia. This is a MUST win game for Caps.

Calgary @ Boston: they will lose, but as long as both teams (Montreal, Calgary) lose then it's fine. Montreal is one point back of Calgary. If Montreal does get one point, we stay behind based on RW tie breaker.

Stars @ Sabres: Again, I doubt Buffalo does anything in this game. Hope for a point. Montreal & Buffalo are tied in points. Montreal will pass Buffalo with one point against Caps if Sabres lose in regulation.

Jets @ Pens: Pittsburgh is only 3 pts ahead of Montreal, but they hold 3 games in hand. Moneyhands 1st game for Jets.

Avs @ NJD: NJD are only 3 pts up on Montreal, but hold 2 games in hand.

You won’t win anything if they win, no more than you will not lose anything if they tank. You are not on the team. You pay cable and tickets to watch them play and that is where your share in their enterprise ends.

If no-one watches, there are no pro sports. It serves no purpose outside generating revenue. They do it by suiting up paid entertainers.

There is no entitlement there, it’s literally the one and only the goal. Entitlement would be a player whining he sould get the Stanley cup because he’s a nice guy and tried really hard. Or that the habs owe me free cable and tickets because they are boring as hell for over a decade. I can chose to watch or not and bitch about the poor ass product on hf all I want, again no entitlement.

The divorce joke was because it makes no sense to me anyone would feel anything beyond what I describe above…. I figured someone around you must have abused your generosity (either an ex wanting the house and the car, or the kids wanting more allowance or something… ) and you needed to rant so you transposed your emotions to hockey? Sorry, was being light hearted, no harm meant.

Yikes! Tank’s going to need reinforcements tonight. Could be disastrous if we win and the rest go poorly.

Price..................................covered over so many of our troubles, it was known league wide. All the while Mol$on was extending clowns like Bergevin and Therrien........

There was NO winning culture riding a goalie............most of us knew it.....everyone knows the reality, that it has to be painful for a few years, before you can enter the winners circle, and even then ask the Leafs it does not guarantee playoffs success.

As much as people hate to admit it, another top 5 pick has to be our goal.
Sad..........patience is hard to exercise.

I think this is last draft we need to be league doormats. We've had 3 top 5 picks to build around. Including a first overall.

In top of that Bergevin was smart enough not to mortgage Montreal future for his cup run. He left the team all its top picks along with a rich farm system. Including the likes of Guhle, Wifi, Roy, Mailloux to aid the rebuild. Also left quality veterans to trade for future firsts in Toffoli, Chiarot, Romanov, Lekhonen. Plus a few more Hughes chose to keep in Savard, Allen, Anderson, etc... The Habs were 10 million under the cap majority of this season. We can add a high priced player.

We don't need to play minor league caliber hockey no more. These next 33 games are going to be disgusting bad. But it stops April 12th. Next fall camp going to be new atmosphere around the team.
2 years away.

Hutson, Reinbacher, Roy and Slafkovsky should start contribute for real in 2 years. This year and the next are ok to finish low. After that, the rebuild becomes too long and we need to reassess coaching and the DGs strategy.

But we are 2 years away. It fits with the age also as ou leadership core will be around 26 years old.

That’s what makes the most sense. Besides , just this year Geoff Molson said the same.
