Slafkovsky is killing the tank. I think that's how it's supposed to work

Hopefully the Habs' don't end up in a situation like the Islanders did with Tavares and the Blue Jackets did with Rick Nash, where they end up drafting 6th every year due to a star player but don't have the supporting cast to do better. Thankfully, I think that's unlikely.

We just have to hit on those 5th and 6th picks. Picking first every year doesn't mean we will win a cup, and conversely not picking first means we could win a cup. One of the most competitive teams over the past 15 years had guys that were drafted in the following positions as their best players....

14th
25th
45th
56th
63rd
71st

I can't believe they managed a .500 on the trip that usually kills them every single season in the last decade.

Slaf/Suzuki/Monty will make sure this team stays a .500 team, which should be good for 8-12.
They need to improve when short a man to go above that.

The good news is, because of overtime points, there are only 6 teams in the entire league with records below .500.

So, hopefully if we stay at .500 or close to it, we can still pick 5, 6, or 7th. For that to happen, we need the other teams ahead of us to keep doing what they're doing, and the likes of Minnesota, Buffalo, Ottawa, and Columbus to pick it up. If all of those teams do, and we trade away quality pieces at the TDL, only Chicago, Anaheim, and San Jose would be below us. So we could get to the 4th to 7th last range.

I agree and that is why I am not a big tank person but I don't trust our scouting staff to find those players. Bobrov track record with the Rangers is awful.

I'm shocked they beat the stars. They sit 7th OA tied with the Wild if you go by win % which is what tankathon does. They have a huge game up next with the sabers though I'm expecting the Habs to win. They have a number of interesting games this month, Sens twice, Sabers, as teams they could still catch.

Pitt has finally picked it up winning 7 of their last 10 and Seattle got 16 out of 20 pts so great to see them moving up the line. Things are still really tight so it could be 4-6 more weeks before things become clearer other then the bottom 3 will be out of reach despite us having the same RWs or close to it.

If the Habs continue to be .500 then for now it looks like it could be a tight race from 6th OA to 12th so if I had to guess I would say pre lottery we end up in that spot but still a lot of hockey left.

Chi sucks
CBJ sucks
SJ sucks
CGY sucks
Ana sucks
Buff sucks
Ottawa sucks
Wild sucks (without Kaprizov)
Blues sucks

Hard to see us sucking worse than any of these teams by EOY.

Calgary and St Louis have better clubs than their respective record, no doubts in my mind. For the rest, it'll be hard to suck more for sure.

I think CGY is in for a full rebuild, they just haven't realized it yet. Probably sell off big assets at TDL

And yet most of the players they drafted look very good.
Only Slaf is playing professionally in NA.

Mesar, Hutson and Engstrom are doing good but let’s see what they are made of at the NHL level.
Beck I have serious doubt he is anything more than AHLer, we'll see.

Slaf is developing nicely. But let him crack the 50, 60 pts mark before calling him a success. He is the 1st overall pick so that comes with high expectations.

Overall, although I don't agree with their selections in the 1st round, it's too early to judge hence I referred to their track record with the Rangers.

Why? Stars excel at defensively unaware pond hockey, those are perfect matches for this Habs team - who have trouble with teams who dominate relentless forecheck (Canes), clog neutral zone (LAK) or hybrid of both (TBay)

It's pretty universal that teams play their backup against bad teams. So yes other tank teams are also mostly facing backups.

We also had a pretty crazy run of facing teams on back-to-backs.

Wedgewood was in however due to an injury to Oettinger.

I'm confident that Habs will have a top 10 pick this year. It's will difficult to predict when Habs are going before the Lottery Day, but bottom 10 finish looks like a the most realistic so far. I'm confident that we are going to have a really really good offensive prospect.

This draft looks stacked on D, but have solid offensive forward aswell.

To be honest I'm not sure if that's just a case of Baader-Meinhof where it was brought up and now we are noticing it more when in previous seasons it happened just as often but it never stuck in memory.

Not sure if there's any website that tracks that, I can only see stats for how many of our own B2B games there have been.

I just hope we will be able to grap a good forward. We need one more good/elite top 6 forward.

Tonight is a real MUST-lose.
So I’m anticipating a win.
