I've heard there are 2 rules to coaching Tennessee Football.

1. You never lose to Kentucky, but if they beat you once in a blue moon, hey it happens but don't let it happen twice in a row.

2. You never, under any circumstances whatsoever, lose to Vanderbilt.

At least they didn't blow the App State game :dunno:

There's only one rule to Tennessee football now:

1. Disappointment

Here are the bowl projections for those who care.

They have State playing Temple in the Military Bowl, Carolina vs. either Minnesota or Iowa in the Pinstripe Bowl. WVU vs. Miami in the Russell Atheltic Bowl, Wake Forest in the Independence Bowl, and South Carolina in the Birmingham bowl for what it's worth.

Schlabach has us in the Liberty Bowl. Going to the Independence Bowl and playing Wake Forest would make things...interesting...around my house.

One of those rare games where I'm not pissed by a loss. We hung in there against a better Clemson team and showed some guts. Future seems bright and in good hands.

Well, we're about to find out if the CFP is just as corrupt as the BCS. If OSU gets in over PSU, we'll then know that it's all about brands and not football.

Somehow I just don't see Penn State getting in. That blowout loss at Michigan I think is going to keep them out.

Tough call, but I think I'd take OSU over Penn State and I hate both. Pitt is nothing special and smoked by Michigan just doesn't get Penn State in for me. I think it's pretty hard to make a definitive enough case either way to call it corrupt though.

Total number of losses doesn't do it for you huh?

I mean, if one thinks Penn St should be in, why wouldn't Michigan get in with an equal # of losses and boatracing Penn St?

That's my argument. We shall see.

It's not easy when some of these scenarios come up against each other and some of the teams beat each other. Not easy to tell whether an extra win or one less loss is that much better or worse. I'll still take this over the BCS.

The conference championship trumps all IMO. If you can't even win your own division, you shouldn't be able to compete for a national championship.

Remember 2008 when Texas and Texas Tech fans complained about Oklahoma getting in over them? Or when Alabama got in over Oklahoma State in 2011? (That one I did think was ********).

The point is you can't please everyone unless 4 power 5 teams go undefeated. And even then there is going to be some *****ing. Those who want the playoffs to expand to 8 are out of their minds. I can see it now, why does 2 loss Wisconsin get in but 3 loss and conference champ Oklahoma is out?

Chaos is going to happen. It's just the nature of the beast.

If you can't even beat mediocre out of conference opponents and get destroyed by another opponent, hard to make some grand claim even with a conference championship. I don't think it should be a big deal if either gets in though.

Problem is the divisions are conjured up out of thin air. Why would a "conference championship" feature a team like Wisconsin that doesn't have the second best record in the conference? (That would be Ohio St)

If conf championship trumps all, does Oklahoma get in your final four?

No, most divisions are put together by location, it's not in Wisconsin's control that their division was weaker this year. Plus, that's overlooking the fact that Wisconsin is a damn good football team. It's not like they were a Florida and won their division because they were the best of the worst.

When I said that the conference title 'trumps all', I was talking strictly for the OSU-PSU debate. OSU has the better record, but PSU won H2H. PSU winning the B1G championship should put that over OSU's superior record. Why should the B1G champion at 11-2 lose out to the team that finished 2nd in the B1G East and also beat said team?

And that's the problem with these mega-conferences. It's possible if not outright easy for teams in the B1G to avoid the strongest teams in the other division of the conference many years. So while OSU draws Nebraska and Wiscy, Ped State ducks both, the only two good teams from the other division, and ends up with an Iowa team that lost at home to NDSU, Purdue that's been terribad since Kyle Orton graduated, and a hockey school. And this isn't me advocating for OSU, my hatred of both programs is prettymuch only surpassed by my hatred of Notre Dame and (for basketball only) Kentucky.

The funny part of this all to me is that the two teams that are playing the best football right now, outside of maybe Bama, aren't going to make the playoffs. Like almost no shot whatsoever for OU, and literally no shot whatsoever for USC.

USC's 3 losses are just toxic, and the agenda had been set from the get-go this season in regard to the Big 12. Yes, the conference was down this year, but Okie State, OU, and WVU were all 3 solid teams this year. Ones that literally got no attention whatsoever in the playoff conversation.

In fact I'll go out and flat out say it: Oklahoma is a better team then Penn State right now and should make the playoff over them, but they won't because ESPN.

It's going to be: Clemson vs Washington (and I can't imagine anyone arguing either of those two should be left out) and Bama vs Ohio State or Ped State... for Karma's sake I'm actually hoping Ohio State. Now excuse me, I need to puke a bit after having that thought even enter my head.

Better wins, fewer losses, no embarrassing losses. Hell, Michigan should be ranked ahead of Penn St.
