I was going to make comeback in hockey this week(after suffering a concussion on the 23rd of November). I decided against it and going to retire at the age of 18. I really want to play hockey, but that is only temporarily. Life is more important. 7 Concussions that I know of, and being out there I was always worried about being hit and getting hit.
Instead I will just hit the Gym, put on a few pounds but on during my time off with a concussion. Same thing happened to me 3 years ago. I was out of commission for 2 years(put on a considerable amount of weight) after grade 10 I should have quit hockey. Oh well, can't do anything about it now. I am pretty much a concussion specialist now on my team. I help out the guys who may have suffered them and tell them what to do and not to do.
The trainer on our team is a nurse, he pisses me off sometimes, because he miss-diagnosis' people on the team. Obviously the coach is going to say trust him more than me but I am the one with the experience of it. He tries to rush them back early, and I advise my teammates to be more cautious about it, and let them know they are ones who know how they feel, not anyone else. When I suspect someone of a concussion, I observe them and sometimes I notice tendencies they normally wouldn't do. For example when someone is drying their hair with a towel they usually are going fast with it. Instead the person is going slow and just rubbing their hair. After a concussion, one symptom to look out for is your a more tired than usual, your eye lids start to feel heavier. Also, you do not need to have dilated eyes to have a concussion. I will continue to be the Concussion Specialist on this team.
