Less crappy mainstream hockey writers. More players being held accountable for their actions on the ice.

I agree with this 100%, most hockey writers would cry if they were "forced to fight" in video game hockey, that's how pathetic and out of touch they are with the way the real sport is played.

The NHL needs less fighting and more space (bigger ice).

Probably an unpopular opinion. But living in Germany and therefore watching lots of German hockey on a bigger surface, as well as lots of NHL hockey, I think the NHL could profit from a bigger playing surface (once all the players are used to it). The game does get a little bit less physical but much more creative with great passing plays. Comparing the DEL/European hockey with the NHL/NA hockey, it is really obvious that about 70% of NHL goals are really greasy rather than nice plays, whereas in the DEL you see a lot more nice passing plays and great goals. With the higher level of play and talented playmakers like Crosby, Malkin, Getzlaf, Kopitar, etc., I could really see that being a great change!

I only watch Tournaments on big ice but I 100% agree with your post

The NHL needs less fights being broken up before they start and more John Tortorella.

Definitely less fights being broken up before they start; they always seem to break up the fights I actually want to see (real hockey players in the heat of the moment). Last night for instance, Benn & Phaneuf were about to go, but the refs stepped in. Same for earlier in the year when it was Phaneuf and Iginla.

I've never seen a stupid staged fight get broken up, that I would actually appreciate; get rid of the goons (this is happening anyways due to their pitiful play).

The NHL needs less fans who's familiarity with the game starts and ends with EA Sports and fantasy leagues.

And more media and fans who play and actually watch the game, even a little bit, on any level.

Not intended as a shot at any personally. Truly believe it would make for more engaging, informed discussion.

The NHL game itself is just fine...as it has been throughout it's history.
