Fewer teams making the playoffs (Makes regular season more exciting plus watching the final in June sucks)
More Divisions.. I basically want MLBs format.

canada proved that big ice is just as easy to shut down during the olympics.

i think the NHL needs to get rid of the shootouts and needs less teams

less teams because 95% of the games are just standard motoric, rivalries>>>

i'd gladly give up my own favourite team, along with ~15-16 others, to create a smaller league. this would just mean another WHA etc will pop up, but so be it

Yea when you have 7 of the best 10 Dmen in the world it's easy.

Allow players to pay a price for standing in front of the net, running around and staring at the puck for extended periods of time.

So, pay the price for playing hockey basically?

Why should they be punished for playing hockey?

I really don't get the sadistic streak so many NHL fans have.

The NHL needs less referee disciplinary action and more player disciplinary action.

How about the hockey players play hockey and the officials officiate the game? It's a new system that a lot of pro sports have found useful. Streamline the whole process.;)

Im not sure what they need less of but they need to get the refs under control. 0 consistency period to period let alone game to game. I love when fans ***** about diving and embellishment and think it has to do with being "slimy" or "*****y". You know why players dive? Cause you never ****ing know if the refs are gonna actually call penalties or not. So you gotta sell it, it's a +ev move because the refs make it that way. I don't even care if they go back to DPE rules or post-lockout rules BUT PICK ONE. Do I agree with how the NFL calls the passing game these days? Not really but at least you know they're gonna call it the same way every time. There's games where you get 2 min for looking at somebody the wrong way and games where interference just doesn't exist. Easily the worst refs of the big 4 leagues.

The NHL needs less teams in the East and more teams in the West.

Haha this. Can't believe they thought it was okay to make it statistically more difficult to make the playoffs in the East than the West.

The NHL also needs less outdoor games. They've ruined the Winter Classic.

It needs more high-quality refs. Some of these guys are brutal on the level of Stephane Auger.

A little less conversation, a little more action please.

Really though, I like Buck Aki Berg's post. Less complaining about where teams are located etc, and more enjoying what goes on on the ice.

less whining about how "much" fighting there is when there is less than 1 fight per game and more emphasis on the passion of the game and the division rivalries.

Less Europeans, more staged fighting.

Less anti-fighting propaganda terms like "staged fighting", no one complained about it 20 years ago before the media started bashing it. The term "staged fighting" was only invented around 2005/2006.

NHL needs less shootouts and more games ending with a legit goal.

The NHL can do 4 on 4 for 10 mins in OT.

To make up for added time they can tweak some current rules. For example, when a goalie catches the puck he must play it behind his net in the trapezoid where only his teammates can enter until that puck is put back in play outside the trapezoid.

They can allow play to continue if the puck bounces back in play off the net within that area.

Allow icing only when its intentional and not if a player misses a pass before the red line.

Less clutching/grabbing/interference, and more referees calling the game the way it is supposed to be called consistently.
