The Next Ones (after Bedard)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Nobody thought Bedard was going to be the next Mcdavid primarily because of his elite skating ability.

His rookie season was more impressive than Mcdavid's considering the talent they played with. Bedard has taken a step back this season but that's perfectly fine in the grand scheme of things.

Nobody would be surprised if he scores 100+ points next year, and he still looks like the best player in his draft class by far.

Yes it will trigger Americans and Europeans but the country with the most registered players and hockey fans is still producing the best talent.

Canada went through a small period of time where they lacked elite talent 2016-2020 but that period most likely was a fluke and isn't an indicator of the future.

Many people thought he was the next McDavid. That is in fact what the Canadian media billed him as.

Bedard’s team in his rookie season had the second least points in the league and McDavid’s team also had the second least. There’s no comparison between their two seasons. McDavid was significantly better, and that’s not because Bedard was bad. McDavid was an elite NHL’er right away.

If you mean by draft you should be listing 2026-2019. The next year 2020 was a good Canadian draft.

You might want to go back and take a look thru those Bedard threads. Definitely was thought of on the same level as McDavid.

2020 was very weak (and not just on the Canadian side).

Lafreniere, Byfield, Drysdale, and Quinn are all far from the level we'd hoped for.

If there's elite talent, it's Seth Jarvis and that's it.

Don't forget Holloway and Perfetti in there as well. If you can make the same claims after next season I'll admit that you are correct. Cheers.

We're talking about elite talent (top 100). Not very good/good NHL players (above league average - top 200/300).

If you're already mentioning these guys, that says a lot.

This is weak compared to Canada's past. Just 10 years earlier, it produced Hall, Seguin, Stone before talking about Skinner, Johansen, Hyman, Schwartz, Toffoli. There, very quickly we talk about Perfetti who is at best, the 8th player on his team.

Holloway is scoring points this season alongside Thomas and Kyrou, but that needs confirmation. I think of Byfield before these guys and for me he is clearly not an elite player.

Elite is Stutzle, Raymond, Sanderson, even Faber (good enough to make Team USA) or Askarov (compared to his progress as a GK).

2017 was a better class draft for Canada than 2020. 2019 was at the same level (Harley as elite player, Byram, Cozens, McMichael)... 2021 really cuts the cycle which would be expandable if it weren't for this draft dominated by Canada (Clarke, Power, Johnston, McTavish, Guenther, Johnson)
