I love Paul Maurice as a person, but hate him as a coach. He reminds me of Norv Turner in the NFL. If you gave Maurice the 1977 Canadiens, he would manage to make them third in the division. It is like he can take a team with a .200 winning percentage and move it up to .4%, and then just stall. I saw him his whole time in Carolina and was always left thinking the team should be better.

It's gotta be Mike Yeo. That takes no effort, makes no sense, and would be the most angering choice.

Fletcher, Clarke and company are building the 2019-2020 Islanders. So the question is, what coach fits that mold?

I think it’s amusing anyone thinks Fletcher is making the call on the coach. He didn’t even want to fire AV. At best he’ll have his guy, and if the cabal agrees they’ll go with it.

I don’t see Maurice being ready to jump back in. He was clearly exhausted when he resigned in Winnipeg.

Gotta feel bad for Fletcher. Forced to hire AV. Forced to trade Ghost. Forced to trade for Risto. Forced to fire AV. Forced to replace AV with his long time buddy from Minnesota. Forced to extend Risto.

Why do people want to fire a GM who isn't even in charge?:snide:

We want to fire the GM more because we just want to fire everyone.

So typical

Granted, if a new head coach is brought in, he's going to choose his assistants, and I doubt Yeo would be one of them. Unless Chuck tells the coach that he's a good ole Minnesota boy and must remain behind the bench

That is the absolute dumbest shit you can do.

Fire the GM. Fire the coach. Move on to a clean slate.

Pure incompetence. Shit the bed for Bedard.

Yeo will go to LHV and Lappy will come back up here. How horrible would that be?

If the new coach comes on board and has to have Yeo as an Asst., hopefully he'll be in charge on ensuring the correct number of pucks are coming back after practice and all the motivational signs and carpets they bring along on roadtrips are accounted for and packed away.

I've really been thinking a lot about who would be the best coach for this team moving forward. I put together a list below based on some articles and looking at different coaching lists. We can add if I missed anyone. The team needs to move in a different direction based on what has transpired, but if we know (and we do) Cuck Fletcher and the old guys in the room, I think we'll know where it's going. I

Within (should be the absolute last option)
Mike Yeo
Ian Laperrière

Retreads
John Tortorella
Claude Julien
Rick Tocchet **** who I think they'll choose
Mike Babcock
David Quinn

Asst. Coaches/AHL/Europe/College
Rickard Gronberg **** this is the guy I want.
Lane Lambert - Asst. Coach - NYI
Nate Leaman - HC - Providence College
Pascal Vincent - Asst. Coach - CLB
Spencer Carbery - Asst. Coach - TOR
Kris Knoblauch - HC - Hartford Wolfpack
Jim Montgomery - Asst. Coach - STL
Jay Leach - Asst. Coach - SEA
Troy Mann - HC - Belleville Senators
Mike Vellucci - Asst. Coach - PIT
Todd Nelson - Asst. Coach - DAL
Manny Malhotra - Asst. Coach - TOR

Added after 1st post
Benoit Groulx - HC - Syracuse Crunch
Paul Maurice
Ryan Warsofsky - HC - Chicago Wolves

That list of assistants/AHL/Europe/College guys isn't bad at all. They're definitely gonna go for an NHL retread though and will probably pick the wrong one.

The money they sank into AV and Yeo, you'd think they go a little less "high profile" . But who knows what the voices in the room are going to do

I really don't understand why none of Cooper's assistants in TB get any buzz for HC jobs. They've clearly been doing a solid job, you don't win back to back Cups without a good staff in place to support the guys on the ice.
