Speaking of hard, some poor guy came in with priapism last night after 12 hours. A trucker who couldn't make it to the hospital sooner. 5 phenylephrine syringes didn't help, so they had to drain the ischemic blood with a needle. Engorged again immediately. More syringes. Finally got it down. 13 hours. No reason for it either. Also happened 10 years ago. Wild shit.

I think when Torts talks about playing hard, he means it in a different sense than the Flyers "brain trust."

Torts, to me, isn't talking about "Flyers bully ball" but just playing hard, shadowing your opponents all over ice, skating hard on the forecheck, getting back to take away odd man rushes, challenging people at the blue line for no easy entries, etc. Make them work for everything. Not hit everything that moves.

Hayes had 22 points in the last 28 games after he finally got healthy.

it’s funny to see people writing him off who I know were happy to defend other Flyers who took a full year to get back to their best after core surgeries.
He does that and then he cools off and mails it in. He obviously isn’t an 82 pt player. Torts was talking like he wanted that much more from Kevin Hayes.

Love how Chris Therian countinues to blame all the teams problems on Dave Scott not being Ed Snider and how they lost the Flyers way...as if the decisions being made arent exactly the types of decisions that Sniders crew would make.

Torts kind of looks like Jesus of Nazareth. Maybe he can raise "LazyAss" from the dead..lol
I don't see Hayes as "lazy." Anyone who plays through the pain like he's done the last two years deserves more respect.

I do think he loses focus, and I think Torts sees him as a player he can ride hard and take him up to the next level, from a marginal to a top 2C.

Hi All, hope you're all having great summers and are doing well.

Wanted to wait until the word was official, but from what I have gathered on here is you guys were distraught over this hire. How you think Torts will make your top young players run out of town and your most respected veterans request to be traded. How he will be a mess and unprofessional. How he could be a massive disaster like he was in Vancouver.

I just wanted to tell you guys that us CBJ fans thought the same thing when he was hired. Literally, saying the exact same things. Especially from me, I hated the hire and wanted nothing to do with it.

However, Torts is a changed man and changed coach since his NYR and Vancouver days. I'm not going to sit here and say he's always professional and won't rub people the wrong way. Because he won't, sometimes he does it on purpose to challenge people. That doesn't always work for players. However, he almost always does that stuff AFTER talking with the players about it for a long time. You'll hear of a "bunker mentality" and he will almost always keep things in house if possible, and if its out of house, its him doing it on purpose. It's something he does to light fires under guys asses. He's not always this mean bear who picks on people, he coddles a lot too. Alex Wennberg, who almost never would shoot or score here, was coddled throughout his entire tenure here by Torts. As was William Karlsson, and now both are among the better two way centers in the NHL. When players get publicly bashed with how they're playing, he will almost always run to their defense and take the blame for them. He sticks up for his players.

He's a great coach. I am not going to pretend to know anything detailed about your team, players, or locker room (aside from Cam Atkinson, who I am quite familiar with ;)) but if your roster needs a shake up, an attitude adjustment, and a new winning culture. Torts is literally the best man on the job for this. He will create bonds within your locker room. He will make the players be ready to play and in shape (You'll hear all about his rigorous training camp drills. Don't expect to look good at all in the preseason).

Has his style adapted from his defense first mentality? Yeah, somewhat. He really wnats the Dmen to be active offensively, and he really wants the centers to shoulder a lot of responsibility not only on breakouts but in defensive zone coverages. He will stress blocking shots (which isn't a surprise to anyone) especially as defensemen.

Torts' actions and coaching doesn't always sit well with people. He ran Ryan Johansen out of town almost instantly, and also pushed away respected vets like Matt Calvert through stupid public comments. However, almost all the times a player "ran away" from Torts, it made the CBJ better in the long run.

I wish you guys/gals luck and an open mind to Torts. I promise he's not as bad as everyone seems to think he is. Not even close.

I read sometime ago that he wasn’t a dinosaur in that he has adapted some over time. I think several on here are aware of that. We do think he will be the best coach we have had in sometime, but also that he continues to signal that Clarke and the old guard are running things and they are not close to wanting to rebuild. To me, Fletcher is far far far worse than any coach hire, let alone torts. Personally, I am going to enjoy the playoff runs and when it’s done hopefully we can do a proper rebuild.

Torts kind of looks like Jesus of Nazareth. Maybe he can raise "LazyAss" from the dead..lol
I can’t see Hayes showing up and producing for an entire year. I see issues there starting already.

Ya know, I had some time to digest this and I'm really excited for one part: the post game loss pressers. Our local media is so f***ing stupid (who was it that wanted honest media feedback again? @Myrtman ? ) That Torts is going to absolutely light them up.

I'll skip the games, but i'm intrigued byt the entertainment value of Torts and our media, at least.

Good stuff from presser

They need to help Carter hart out more and get better away from the puck

He wants to bring in someone who's a power play specialist (coach)

He wants to bring Hayes to another level

Agreed. He won’t caress the media the same way as AV did. He’ll tear into them when he’s pissed or will feel slighted. He was being very polite and nice to them today. But that’ll inevitably change. These beats are either complete cucks towing the company line or they have been put into an it of a slumber because of it, although you have the complete dumb asses like Simple Sam, for whom no amount of time will help.

He stunk the year before fully healthy and one year younger. A productive 28 games stretch in garbage time isn't enough to convince me he's not going to be the most overpaid 2C in the NHL next season.
