They won't suck..the meh coach will impose enough structure to assure a meh position in the standings. The Flyers are going to be mired in meh for an eternity at this point bc they will not do what is needed and they are hoping their perception management turns enough of a profit (make the playoffs) to make their stock a "hold" stock. The whole strategy is corporate crap...
But they won't though, that's the thing. This team sucks as constructed regardless of who the coach is. Honestly I would be thrilled if they make the playoffs but they suck and they won't. I'm not thrilled about the Torts hire, don't get me wrong, but if you are mad because Torts will overachieve with this team...that is a weird complaint about a coach to have. I'm trying to understand the idea so I don't want to mischaracterize it, but is the alternative a coach that would somehow be a better coach but get worse results? Like do we want a different coach because that coach will miss the playoffs but somehow improve the team or the on-ice product? Or is there a different coach out there that you think will not only make the playoffs but go deeper? Or is the concern that because Torts is the coach that means you think there are going to be some roster moves forthcoming that will change the trajectory of the team (which again, confusing because do we want to improve or tank)?

You should want the team to make the playoffs unless they are going to do an all out tank to get Bedard (which isn't even a guarantee). I would rather be mired in mediocrity and make the playoffs than be mired in shit and no make the playoffs. The problem is unequivocally not the coach. If this team was good enough to make the playoffs, they would have done-so under AV (or Yeo, or whomever). If they weren't good enough but Torts gets them to play well enough to make the playoffs, that should be a sign that Torts is a good coach. I am fully against signing JH or making some other big splash that doesn't involve a literally explosion of this team, which seems unlikely if not impossible.

As I said earlier, this team and organization sucks. They are not built for success and have to overhaul the roster completely for all intents and purposes, which ain't happening. They have an average (or worse) roster with average (or worse) prospects. The coach is not going to make a difference and if it does, I'd rather see them make the playoffs and lose than be a basement dweller hoping for the next generational talent because newsflash: it ain't coming and even if it does you don't get guaranteed shit for it outside of personal hardware (see: McDavid, Connor)

Torts doesn't give a single shit about anyone else but himself. When the team struggles, he throws them under the bus and publicly embarrasses them to take the heat off of himself. He's AV on steroids.

Nah. Not really the case at all. He’s going to shit all over the team and call out individual players when they are playing terribly. But nowhere in the same league of narcissism as AV.

He will. The Authentics that have wanted this team to play with snot and balls for years now are going to eat it up. They're going to cream themselves the first time he yells at a ref.
They might have a little bump at first because of the "excitement" but once they see they still suck it will fade fast. Hockey is pretty irrelevant and with what they charge for tickets it ain't happening.

So this is reality? Torts is going to be the Flyers coach? It is amazing how bad Fletcher has screwed this organization.
I prefer to look at it as a waking nightmare. There is only one retread coach I hate more than AV and it's Torturella the Drama Queen.

Fletcher is killing the Flyers, one bad move after the next.

It's the same thing. Torts blames players when his coaching fails. No different than AV. One was passive-aggressive, one is hyper-aggressive...only difference.

Not happy, I still think the guy is a jerk, even if some players say he has mellowed. All I can say is...prove me wrong.

As I mentioned prior..Torturella as he is aptly called is a short term fix and he will squeeze blood from a stone initially and there is a chance they make the playoffs although yeah Appleyard's chronology seems more likely given the makeup of the roster. All I am saying is that this guy is obviously no solution and they are applying a band aid on a gun shot wound. He will make things worse by prolonging the inevitable. He will be part of the cancer that permeates the team.

To quote John Cleese - "this is not admirable loyalty. This is lack of imagination"
Post #2 of this thread:

It’s going to be Tocchet, Torts, or Laperriere.

I mean haven’t you guys seen the great job that Lappy is doing with the Phantoms?! Has them playing way above their heads!

All three are lazy and unimaginative and as we know Fletcher is a lazy sack of feces with no imagination.

Holy shit.

I would hope that it's only because all the best ones didn't want the job.

Then again, that's pretty depressing in and of itself.

It's interesting that Tocchet was never interviewed after all of the speculation a little while back that there was mutual interest. He must have known better.

He was laying down some large action on the betting line.
