We're talking about hockey players here. The ones that regurgitate cliches unlike any other sport. If a player is asked at a year-end press availability, he's either going to say he liked the coach or he will take the high-road. You won't find many examples of active hockey players who trash their former coaches. These often don't come out until they are retired (if at all).

Umm you realize there’s a big difference between saying I liked him and spending multiple paragraphs endorsing him, talking about your time playing for him and how much you loved playing for him. Like the players endorsing him have gone well past cliches and saying I liked him and he made me a better player or something.

Players who have retired other than Dubinsky have also had good things to say about him.

The "objective of the hockey tournament" is to win. This team is so far away from winning that it's hard to express with words. Bringing in a an old curmudgeon win-now coach to go with a rebuilding-level roster just shows how clueless they are and that they are still 'going for it' in time honored Flyers fashion. They should hire a young coach who is knowingly signing on for a lengthy rebuild and wants to grow with a young team. However, they are incompetent and clueless as always. Torts plus their latest roster patch job (to be announced later) is good enough to get them from 5th from the bottom to about 10th place. That's not winning. It is consistent for them though. The most consistently mediocre team in sports. The Flyers are like Groundhog's Day in sport team form.

I guess Gritty wasn't enough distraction from the on-ice mediocrity, they need a frothing at the mouth jackass to distract from the organization's incompetence in press conferences after each loss. Another wasted year coming up.

I don’t think it’s fair to criticize fans for being skeptical that the hiring of a new head coach means a significant short-term turnaround. The organization is more than one or two positive events from becoming a serious contender, and it goes much deeper than the head coaching position.

I think it will be hard for them to repeat their futility from last season, but the organization still has the same roster construction/front office philosophy problems that I feel limit their ceiling. It will take phenomenal leaps forward from several of their young guys to be really competitive. I could see them doing something to create room for a Giroux or Gaudreau, but they don’t have the cap space or roster flexibility to make changes from outside the organization. I’ll forever be scarred by the Ristolainen series of transactions when thinking positively of Fletcher’s skills, so maybe I’m too biased to see the forest for the trees.

You think Giroux would even entertain the idea of coming back to play for Torts? He would laugh his ass off at the idea, especially after the way it ended here.

And yeah, you gotta love the fact that they wanted to make a big splash in UFA this summer but made that extremely difficult by re-signing a total scrub defensemen due to sunken-cost fallacy.

They won't suck..the meh coach will impose enough structure to assure a meh position in the standings. The Flyers are going to be mired in meh for an eternity at this point bc they will not do what is needed and they are hoping their perception management turns enough of a profit (make the playoffs) to make their stock a "hold" stock.
