Live Powderfinger is one of my favorite songs of all time. Crazy Horse at their finest. Neil always joked that the Horse couldn't afford to quit their day jobs, but they are a really tight backing band.

Do you think so? I always thought of them as endearingly shambolic. I love the Horse.

I saw them back in the nineties. The show I saw they were tight. But I see where you are coming from. Neil himself had a play it sloppy but make it sound good attitude with the Horse, but he's a really good guitarist.

Some get on Neil for basically writing the same song repeatedly. Some get on Crazy Horse for their, ah, less than perfectionist ways. Some of that is valid.

But, as you know, there's no one like Neil. No one sings like him, like it or not, and no one, as Lennon might say, makes it "scream and howl" like Mr. Young.

Shakey is a special character. The world is more interesting with him in it,

Loved Shakey!

I've been to 4 Neil Young concerts...the best show being in Halifax with Wilco as the opening Act.

So many good albums...

My top Live albums...
Live Rust (my first Neil album)
Time Fades Away
Tonights the Night (the tequila tour)

Top studio albums:.
Everybody knows this is nowhere
Harvest
On the Beach
etc...

Other than Silver and Gold was not a big fan of his newer stuff.

Had my chance to meet Neil in Halifax. A friend of mine was a good friend of Bob Young (Neil's brother). Bob got us the tickets and the plan was for Bob to join us and take us back stage to meet Neil....Bob was not able to join us and we missed the opportunity to go back stage. Grrrrr.

Haven't heard this in ages.

It's from the 70s but in the early 90s, when NESN asked Lyndon Byers if he preferred the organ or pop music to be played at B's games, he chose the latter. HIs favorite song to play at the old Garden? "Black Betty." PS I'll take the organ any day to racket they force on you these days. Way, way too loud at TD Garden, imho.

LB was a character, and of course very tight with Cam,

What a drag. You missed your "Brush With Greatness"! You could have been on Letterman. Oh, well. "That's Life," as Frank had it.

At least you've seen him in concert mutliple times. I've only seen him once, in '89 or '90 with my brother Greg at an outdoor music venue. I think it's long gone and can't remember the name. Also, unfortunately, the entire show was acoustic. I like that stuff as much as the electric stuff, but it would have been cool to see Mr. Young rockin' out in the free world. When he gets going, he's possessed!

Many posts previous, some of us went through our favorite Neil albums.

I haven't listened to "new" Neil since, Ragged Glory, and that was over thirty years ago.

I remember as a kid going to UNH games it was a fan favorite, the band even played it. Then about 20 years ago some new University President came in and banned the song because its lyrics were supposedly racially insensitive and there was nearly a riot from students over it.

That is the modern Academy for you.

I can understand the impulse, though.

In his perch in the press box in Montreal, Bob Wilson, the longtime radio voice of the Bruins, led listeners through his pregame setup. It was a potential series clincher for the Habs. With almost a stand-up comic's refined delivery, The Voice fired off the names of Montreal's hot scorers. Based on Wilson's frustrated tone and, the French names rolling from his tongue in near perfect accent, another end was upon his beloved B's.

"That rounds out the Montreal attack," boomed Wilson, segueing directly out of the roll call of Canadiens scorers. "And who do the Bruins counter with, but Lyndon Byers . . . who couldn't put the puck in the ocean if he was standing at the end of the dock!"
