Yes. His best from the 70s, imo.

Now, I know everyone loves Joni, but as with J. Baez, I can't get past the high, trilling soprano. Too precious. Give me an alto every time,

Get your point about Joni. I'm not music expert but it seems like Joni has more range than Joan. But what do I know?

Saw you posted a Sundays song. Late 80s/early 90s was a great time for female lead singers. Sundays, Sugarcubes, 10,000 Maniacs, Cranberries, Garbage, Mazy Star, ... Little earlier but also Eurythmics, Siousxie, ...

I'm starting to really like First Aid Kit.

Really liked 10,000 Maniacs, but Natalie Merchant was easily one of the single most unpleasant people I met in a dozen years in the biz. Rest of the band were really great people. Rob Buck was an innovative, original guitar player, too. I can't believe he's been gone 23 years.

Agree on criticism of Joan Baez. Not a fan, at all.

Joni Mitchell never blew my mind the way many speak of her, but I don't dislike her.

One of my first concerts. 1983 at cape cod colliseum. I still have the stub somewhere.
Great show, the two things I really remember most:
1) it was hotter than hell. I don't think that place had A/C
2) In between bands, they played Bowie "let's dance" and the whole crowd sang along to it.

I loved In My Tribe (1987). Why doesn't it surprise that Natalie was a precious pain in the ass?

Very talented. Very irritating.

I'm sure Joan Baez, like Joni Mitchell, is great. I just didn't dig the vocals, that's all.

There are many lovely songs on In My Tribe.

Two from latter years, including Merchant's solo Tiger Lily,

(BTW, As much as I like REM, Michael Stipe is a dope. Ditto Morrissey. The latter is more the prick. Used to find him amusing.)

Sad, sweet and beautiful, reminds of Christmas for me, as that's when I discovered it, and keep it still,

Love Joni. This is a favorite of mine. I wish I had seen her in concert.

One of the Founding Fathers

John and Paul climbed Twenty Flights to form the Beatles

If your brother won't rock your sister will

They showed up Eddie

I'm gonna raise a fuss I'm gonna raise a holler

Was on the ground floor with what would later become called "Heavy" metal

I am 1000% in agreement with that statement. I can take her or leave her. She's on a list of artists that I've tried really hard to find a reason to like, but just can't bring myself to do it. To each their own, I guess. That's why we are all different.

Ted Nugget
Stranglehold

Never liked Ted.

It's OK. I grew up (am 70 now) when she was writing and singing. I always loved her stuff.

She is a great songwriter, and her voice is/was amazing. I used to be able to sing along but some of those notes are more difficult to reach now.

She is a good musician.

My God, Morrissey is a Grade A prick.
I used to hang out in a British pub in Taiwan with a bunch of British ExPats. Everytime I brought up The Smiths,
there response was always "Morissey is C&*%" Was pretty fun getting them riled up.

Agree with all of that. But, like Rocco says, I just couldn't get into her. My late brother Greg was a big fan.

As for Ted Nugent, he was a very fine blues-based rock guitarists in the 70s. He's also from Detroit ("Motor City Madman"), so he was big when I was growing up in the Detroit area.

However, he's a dope and a jerk for reasons I won't go into. Mods would chase me off the board. :tmi:

I remember Ted whining about being left out of the Rock and Roll HOF. David Crosby and Ted were going at it (maybe on Twitter). Crosby called him a "hack" or something. I basically agreed with David.

He had one hit that I can think of. ..and yes...there are "other" reasons I think he is an asshole. I didn't care much for him even before some of the ignorant comments he made.

Yes.

David Crosby... I'll leave that one alone, too, save to say he has managed to alienate almost everyone on the planet over the years. Not a fan.

As for Nugent, he was pissed that Joan Jett was named one of the "100 Greatest Guitar Players" by Rolling Stone, while Ted did not make the list. So, Ted being Ted, he bitched about it.

Now, I'm a huge Joan Jett fan. She's a good rhythm guitarist. Good. Maybe very good. Great? No.

Anyway, Nugent bitched and Joanie rejoined,

You could make a pretty long list of great musical artists, who are less than ideal as human beings. I'm not going to go there on this board, however I will say that I'll still listen to their music, if I think its good, no matter how big of a prick they might be in real life......

Me too, generally speaking. I'm a huge Sinatra fan. I'm a big Lennon fan. I love much of Dylan's work. I love John Lydon, jerk that he is.

Etcetera.

One thinks one has an understanding based on accounts and reputation, but one has absolutely no idea how understated this is until one witnesses it in person. For a guy whose shtick is working class antihero, he's quite the delicate prima donna.
