The SNL Pope incident was actually 30 years ago this week. Not going to get into the merits of what she was protesting since people get very emotional over it, but I think everyone would agree that it was a botched protest because it didn't bring any attention to the underlying issue she was trying to protest, it just made her look very disrespectful to an entire religion and she never actually clarified anything during or after the fact. And that completely ruined her career.

But yeah, she apparently had trauma as a child with her mother being abusive and has some serious mental illnesses and keeps acting out in stranger and stranger ways. Good singer but shot herself in the foot with that one moment and can't dig herself out of it.
If you get a chance, watch the newly released documentary. Very interesting and she talks at length about some of her actions in those days. Suffice to say I think she had a lot in common with young Amy W. Not the drink, but in terms of the immense if somewhat reluctant talent. Both girls poured out their pain through music and were perhaps not well suited or equipped for the stardom their talent drove. Machinery tried to drag them along, they resisted, and sadly lost.

Watched the Sinead O'Connor documentary last night. She teeters on the edge of keeping it together, but she was right more often than she was wrong. World wasn't ready for her though.

just watched it last night too, great insight, her and Dolores O`Riordan, my favorite two female vocalists, doesn`t mean I love everything they offered, but just loved their voices

not music but the McEnroe doc was fabulous too:)

I saw the McEnroe document last week as well. Absolutely agree with you — really really enjoyed it.

Thanks for reminding me go back and spend the last little while re-listening to DOR — I did so love her stuff with and without the Cranberries. What a magic voice. Another sad story.

Couple songs from a guy who I've listened too since I was 13 years old.....Bob Mould.

First time I saw him was in Madison, WI with these guys.,.

His next great band...

Some solo stuff...He's older, but he still has his fastball.

little known fact.....He wrote the original theme song for the Daily Show on Comedy Central

This was from a concert right before Tom let this earth. It has been 5 years.

Tom was a Heartbreaker but showed how big his heart really was when he and fellow Wilbury got their hero Del Shannon back into the studio.

They co-wrote, sang and thigh/butt slapped on Walk Away a word play on Del's Runaway

There was even talk of Del joining the Wilbury's after Roy Orbison's passing. It would not come to pass.

"Me and Del was singin', a little Runaway, I was flyin". Miss 'em both dearly

My friend Smokey was the spittin' image of Ronnie Lane right down to the cigarette stub hanging from his lip. He was a Rangers fan but that was OK because he baked the best chocolate chip cookies this side of Betty Crocker. I had the 72 Cup on my side. I'll cheer for your boys tonight vs Tampa.
