I can morph anytime. Even though Tommy was the white ranger in the movie.

Furiosa was awesome. If you liked Fury Road, dont miss catching this in theater.
I mean it's a great movie in its own right, but I think people who go in expecting it to be just like Fury Road will be disappointed because it's much slower paced and helps explain the entire backstory, whereas Fury Road was just one prolonged action sequence.

It doesn't deserve to bomb, though. Saw it in IMAX and it was phenomenal

I’m gonna see if I can go this week. I’ll contribute to it being less of a box office bomb. *sigh*

The Fall Guy (which I also saw in the theater and enjoyed) and Furiosa both bombing is utterly baffling to me. Truly a bizzare start to the summer movie season.

Yeah it's certainly not structured the same. Theres obviously still a bunch of action but it's framed differently...and just as awesome. The plot is better than Fury Road for sure.

Furiosa underperforming isn't baffling to me. Fury Road is one of the best action movies ever made, was nominated for 10 Oscars, and it made $380MM against a ~$180MM budget. That's flirting with breakeven at a more profitable time. George Miller is fantastic, Mad Max is a fantastic IP, but it just doesn't have enough mass appeal for whatever reason. So, a prequel a decade later, without Max, always seemed like a losing proposition. Even if it's absolutely a story worth telling and made well.

Sad but true. It takes some sort of viral marketing to generate FOMO (like the Barbenheimer thing last summer) in order to get that demographic out to the theater in droves.

It's always cyclical. I don't think this slump was that unpredictable looking at the slate. Inside Out 2, A Quiet Place: Day One, Deadpool & Wolverine will probably shake up the summer.

It's impossible to ignore streaming and quicker VoD release schedules making people stay home. But even for me, who will go to see an indie movie, the theater experience is not always up to par. I will see Furiosa in Dolby Cinema (I usually only go to IMAX if something is filmed with IMAX cameras). I highly recommend spending a few more bucks at an AMC theater and going to their exclusive Dolby theater. Better sound, better picture, newer theater. They cycle through releases quickly, but if a movie I want to see is playing there, I don't hesitate.

Even as a millennial I have to say the novelty of the movie theater has even worn off on me since streaming became more prevalent. Granted the movies prices don’t help either.

Yeah....there is not much appeal even with the stadium seating and other offerings. As a teen it was fun bc you could be naughty with your gf in the neck breaker seats...

I still go regularly..even by myself sometimes lol.

I find that I get too distracted to watch movies at home. A lot of time I end up watching passively and don't really get into the movie. The only reason the wife and I don't go MORE often is because we have an 8 year old and need a babysitter, which isn't always available. Any chance we get to take her to a family movie (like IF or Ghostbusters) we do.

Yeah I understand. I know people still like that. But I also understand the younger generations resistance towards them. They didn’t really grow up with it & they’re not really incentivized to go like we were growing up. Like a lot of entertainment businesses I think they priced themselves out over time & cheaper alternatives came for younger generations.

I couldn't really afford to go to a lot of movies growing up. Most of the movies I watched as a kid were at the $1 Devon theater (second-run movie place) on Frankford Avenue in Northeast Philly. So maybe I just don't have some kind of big nostalgia for movie experiences as a kid. It had crappy seats, a screen that often was damaged or repaired.

Squarely put me down in the prefer to watch movies at home. Maybe it's because I don't have kids to interrupt or worry about, but I much prefer to experience it without random people distracting me or just the hassle of everything else. Plus having the "beverage" of your choice you can't get in a theater is a plus.

My wife and I used to go to the moves a lot before the pandemic, but now we've got out of the habit mostly due to laziness, and we don't even have kids. Didn't see Barbie or Oppie in the theater. The last movie I went to was Godzilla -1, which was awesome.

For Dune 2 I wanted to wait till I can watch it with subtitles so I have a better than zero chance of following what's going on.

Godzilla Minus One was definitely awesome in the theater. As was Dune 2. I think you can stream that at home on MAX now though.

The AMC Movie Pass is a hilariously good value deal. I haven’t done it, but I have a friend who did. It’s ~$23 a month, and you can see up to 3 movies a week with free reservations. And you pay nothing extra for IMAX/Dolby. A non-matinee ticket to those costs $20-21 before tax or any convenience fees. You can do the math on the value.

I’m with you because I know we are traditionalists. A good theater experience (admittedly that varies) just blows away watching on a TV. And I also value the ability to have no distractions.

Fritz the cat, Kentucky Fried Movie and Can I Do It Till I Need Glasses. plus Bruce Lee and the biker gang movies were some of the staple fair at the old Coatesville and Exton Drive ins. amc+ has the last Drive in on every other Friday so I can get my horror fix.

Just saw it. Agreed, it was very good. I actually think my favorite part was the opening hour with the actress who played the younger Furiosa, even if it was less car+action heavy. It was very lean and well paced. Also, Hemsworth was damned good.

What a sin we won’t get Mad Max: The Wasteland. It’s already scripted. Thank you, audience. But Fast XI here we come.
