Actually, understanding some of the response from guys like Seider... I think McClellan is part of the isue. I think he too openly to the media bashed his guys. Even if he did it in private first, the team clearly didn't respond to being called out in the media. Which tells me that they don't respect the man.

Like if I'm loafing in a game and the coach singles me out? God damn it, I might make some mistakes, but I'm gonna try my ass off for the foreseeable future.

Also, Even though it will take some doing to replace a top 6 forward like Patrick Kane... I think the Wings might be further ahead not bringing him back. Kane can coast and still produce. However, you have the kids on the roster who grew up watching and having him as their favorite player and they're not that skilled. A lot has been said about the empty cupboard, the bad cap situation, and the legacy contracts for mediocre players, but Larkin is another example of just how tough a task Yzerman was faced with when he took on this project.

You look at a team like Montreal, and they've made good strides sure, but they also started their current group with a pre-existing centre who scored 100pts while winning a Selke this year at 26 years old. So like a Datsyuk-level guy, at least on the surface.

What was Yzerman's one prize asset in a mountain of sh*t when he took over? A centre who struggles to crack 70 points, who is a terrible leader for that particular room, and who consistently folds under pressure.

If we added Seider and Raymond to a Suzuki-type rather than a Larkin-type, pretty good chance we're not in this position right now.

So considering everything, I'm actually happy about this. For as many reasons as there are to criticize Larkin for this trade request, and how he's carrying himself through the process in terms of his 3-team list (lol get f**ked, Dylan), he's also doing us a huge favour in the grand scheme of things. We're better off in the long run moving on from this chump.
