Update.

brother in law was home from the air force and told him I’d make him a good dinner to welcome him home. Center cut filet done medium rare and home made crab cake that actually dwarfed the large cut filet. We also had mashed potatoes—wife didn’t put enough butter in them and subsequently dealt with us annoying her about it.

no pictures but it was a great success.

Better cut of meat for smoking and making pulled pork, butt or shoulder?
They're actually the same. Pork butt is the shoulder. It's weird but true.
I hate the way these cuts are named because if you buy something labeled pork butt, its the upper part with the shoulder blade in it. You want this for pulled pork since it is fatty and shreds well. The butt is the actual shoulder. But the cut labeled shoulder (or picnic) is more like the elbow and not as fatty and not great for pulled pork. I feel like butchers throw random combinations of the words picnic, shoulder, blade, butt, boston onto a cut of meat to confuse me. Sometimes even three of them on the same cut.

Did she use fish sauce?
Not that I know of

She cut up onions, carrots and celery and put them in a pressure cooker with the meat and potatoes(and water). Once meat was nice and tender, took it and the potatoes out and then blended everything together as I don't like chunks of onions and carrots. Added a can of diced tomatoes at some point. Then let everything simmer for awhile.

Tastes exactly like beef and barley soup, just with no barley. It was very good.

Hell
I think I like German style potato salad better than I guess more traditional American style. Vinegar based instead of mayo based.

I grabbed the German one by accident before at the deli I go to & have gone with that one ever since.
German Potato Salad is underrated.

Potatoes, bacon, celery, yellow onion, parsley, salt, pepper, vegetable oil, vinegar...serve warm or cold. Very best is after sitting in a refrigerator for over 24 hours.

Ha this on Christmas day since there was just 2 of us. Pork chop with stuffing on TOP. Was baked in the oven and my god it was good.

Stuffing had a nice crisp layer on top with moist stuffing underneath it and the pork chop meat just flaked away like it was pulled pork. Then of course all the fixings.

We had lemon meringue pie and Nanaimo bars for dessert. No pic of the pie as it got eaten too quick.

Going to attempt to smoke a pork butt on Friday. Any rubs you recommend or any marinade recipes to inject into the piece of meat you might be able to suggest?
Never got this notification. What the shit HF?

Slather that butt up with yellow mustard before you put the rub on. It sounds preposterous but it adds no flavor and helps the rub adhere to your meat.

Rufus Teague and Stubb's both make some rubs that are pretty common in grocery stores and get the job done.

Out of what I've personally tried, this is one of my favorites. Lambert's Sweet Rub O' Mine (12.5 Ozs) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005IUSCIO/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_VJCMRJ6H39GE38VS2E6J?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

What is that Nanaimo bar? It looks like a cheesecake brownie, which I would happily kill a man for.
