I hoped at the beginning of the season that he'd get paired with Staal somehow so that he could really take some chances on offense. You could see the first few games that he wanted to play harder on offense but he didn't want to leave Bickel back to cover for him. I'm really glad to see that it happened and that it's working. MDZ can be a very exciting player when he's on his game.

With so much talent I'm pretty shocked he has been held pointless for so long. I really thought he would take that next step offensively this year.

No points in February MDZ is in a funk

Look, there's no doubt that Del Zotto has terrific passing skills and a lot of upside offensively but his lack of even a mediocre hockey IQ will continue to hold his development back!

Just rumoured on HNIC Hotstove in 2nd intermission of Leafs/Sens game that he would be part of Avs O-Reilly deal if made.

I don't understand what's special about O'Reilly that we'd give up our only offensive defenseman who's good (not great) at defense. Everyone seems to make him out to be some superstar stud, but his career high is around 50 points isn't it?

They also said it was a package deal, including a defensemen in return.

Right handed defensemen the avalanche have that have offensive ability?
Erik Johnson, Tyson Barrie, and Stefan Elliott?

Rangers would have to give up something quality with Del Zotto to get any of those.

Boyle? Is he worth that much? Dont see them moving Stepan after they were so against it with the Nash trade. Definately wont move Hags.

How about a prospect? I would assume the top guys, Kreider, Skjei, McIlrath, and Miller are off the table. Thomas, Fasth, Fogarty? Is Zuccarello worth anything for colorado?

Anyway, I wasn't just hating, I really wanted to know what the big deal with him was. I was hoping it wasn't just he makes bone crushing hits once in a while. Or even worse he fights.

Our #2 center had almost twice as many points in his first two years and half of NYR HF wants to get rid of him.

Thats because half of posters here are insane.

Also, Stepan will be 23 in june, O'Reilly just turned 22 a week ago.

But if they did add O'Reilly, which may end up happening with an offer sheet, they can buy out Richards the end of this season. Then they could afford to sign O'Reilly and resign their RFAs.

I don't want to trade Del Zotto for him though. I don't think a 55 point center who scored 52 points in total in the 2 seasons before is legit 1st line numbers. I don't want to give up a bonafide top 4 D-man for a guy that's more potential now than anything.

O'Reilly's value isnt in just his offensive numbers though, he is one of the top defensive centers, and thats not potential, so far through out his career he has been excellent defensively. Last year was just the first year he really took off offensively (he was only 20!)

But as I said, the rumor was it was a package that included a defenseman in return.

Still. Another thing to consider, I'm not as huge on intangibles as a lot of people. However we'd be trading a guy that signed and didn't miss a minute of camp (aka a TEAM PLAYER) for a ****** that hasn't played a minute for the Avs and I think wants 5 million (more than he's worth going IMO). What happens if we have contract problem with him in the future?

If this rumour actually has basis in fact, then I am not really in favour.
Michael Del Zotto is a guy I want to see stay with NYR.

What is with all the trade talk lately? It seems like the current rage among some is to rip the team up. There has already been enough change this season (letting Rupp go and getting the new guys was a great decision, in my opinion), but I can't say I am enthusiastic about this one (admittedly, it's just rumour).

It's not all about points pal. Our #2 center doesn't score goals when the games really matter(1 goal in 25 games in the playoffs in his career) and isn't anywhere near as good as ROR is at forchecking, creating turnovers, faceoff % and physical play.
If, for arguments sake, the proposed deal was MDZ and Stepan for Erik Johnson and ROR, that's a deal the Ranger's should do everyday and twice on sundays!
