Yes, our powerplay point who had one whole powerplay goal all of last season.
Most of the game is played on even strength.

And he deserved every second of it, too. Girardi and McD have had very disappointing starts. Staal has been alright, and had a great game last night.
MDZ's good play has partly made up for the less than stellar start by the rest of the D.
One of the best passing defenders in the game and has a very good shot that I still think he needs to use more. Very happy with his progression and very happy that Sather balked at giving him up for Nash.
Kid's going to be a star for a long time. Maybe this could be our Scott Niedermayer, just not as talented...
Devils had unbelievable defense: Stevens, Niedermayer, Daneyko, Rafalski. That's a hell of a top-4.
I really didn't want to do this 'cuz it's more clutter to the front page...
...that's a lie, I really DID want to do this.
When is everybody going to eat crow and acknowledge how good he is?
His offense is very good but defensively, he is average at best.
There are times when he and Staal paired together look like a chinese firedrill trying to clear the crease area and in trying to get the puck out of our zone.

I have a feeling he can become Lidstrom and you'd still say his defense sucks. Ditto Staal.
Realistically speaking, Del Zotto has been, is and probably will always be an average defensive defenseman with really good passing skills and a very good all around offensive game. Staal? He has just about maxed out his potential as a solid defensive defenseman with fairly good offensive skills.
Next time a big bodied forward is out in front of the net with MDZ and Staal defending, let me know what you see without the "rose colored glasses" on!
As I said previously; we get it. Del Zotto is not and never will be Ray Bourque. Show me a single team in the NHL from the last 10 years that had six elite defensemen. It's mind-numbing how people feel the need to point out every single flaw Del Zotto has. It's like people here DON'T want him to be successful. Can't we just appreciate him for what he is? Michael Del Zotto makes defensive lapses and bad turnovers from time to time. Teemu Selanne isn't great defensively. Todd Bertuzzi isn't a great skater. These are things that are understood and accepted because ultimately the positives outweigh the negatives. We don't need to be constantly reminded that Del Zotto is prone to a poor play or poor game. His value to the team is pretty high regardless.
Do you nitpick every player on the Rangers? McDonagh isn't exactly the most physical guy in front of the net either.
Anyone else was upset when we drafted MDZ? We just drafted Sangs 2 years before and he seemed like an unnecessary addition. Plus he had a lot of haters on the prospect board that made it sound like he was an abomination defensively.
That's the big issue here with the Rangers being that none of our defenseman scares anybody! Our defensemen are basically clones of one another with minor exceptions(McDonagh is a better skater, MDZ is a better passer, Staal is more physical along the boards and Girardi is the better shot blocker, and so on).
This is the main reason we have so much invested in the drafting and development of McIIrath who to me can be the one major difference maker on our backline that we so desperately need.
Wow...you dump on a guy who is capable of being a top 4 D on 30 teams in the league right now, and push for a kid who will probably never be a full-time NHLer?
Heck, I'd gladly take him in Ottawa on our second unit.
