You should be concerned about Hughes, Molson, and what a lot of you don't want to hear the actual validity that the Habs have a top tier prospect pool because it certain doesn't look like it.

Slaf took a solid, sizeable, hell even a big step forward. The rest seem to be a small step between either the 22-23 to 23-24, or from last season to now, but doesn't/seem didn't seem like they took a step in both in terms of personal growth.

MSL had taken no steps forward it seems.

Prospect pool has gotten better and you'd hope so given the finishes and selling of players.

He’s not a better coach. The fact he couldn’t even keep basic control of his emotions directly cost us a playoff series. Maybe, just maybe the MSL sees where he's heading with the team and sees that he needs to change course and tactics.

Maybe he realizes that the parts he's working with have to be organized to be greater then their raw sum.

You should double check his record. His last stint (5yrs) his record was 194-134-37 which is very good. Doesn’t mean he is a great coach but it doesn’t fit your narrative. I wouldn’t want him back but he is a better coach than Marty is right now.

This team has no clue what to do in their own end, none.

People on here have been complaining about the Man vs Man system for years. They end up chasing all night and get hemmed in their end for long stretches of time. Its like watching the globetrotters play the generals. The Leafs, Bruins, Pens, and Kings did it to them all night long.

They are last in almost all D team stats, so yes, the system (whatever they are playing) is not working. So yes, coaching needs to improve. I know MSL fans hate to hear this but it’s obvious.

I have my own criticism of MSL. Why is there not a dedicated a PP coach? What was Burrows’ tasks? Who’s taking care of those tasks? Is MSL blocking us to have a full top notch coaching staff or is Molson being cheap? But bring up Therrien and I have nightmares of the 2002 playoffs and his full second stint.

Dach was fantastic before getting hurt. Ditto with Newhook. Slaf has killed it. Hutson is killing it. CC killed it before getting hurt. Matheson has killed it.

What are you expecting here? Almost all of the prospects/young players we've picked up have overachieved.

Doesn't matter. The points are significantly higher. The team improved and that's an objective truth. And they did it in the face of crippling injuries.

And I don't think we'll be a bottom five team this year. I expect us to get around 85 points.

That team was coached half the year by Ducharme. Then they (smartly) traded away a wack of vets for picks. One yielded Hutson who's helping us now. The moment MSL took over, CC took off.

He's improved by leaps and bounds. Development isn't a linear line, it's a series of two steps forward one step back. Would you bet against him getting 60 points this year? A bad five games doesn't negate this.

22-23 - 68 points
23-24 - 76 points

Massive improvement every year. That's just the standings.

Roster/prospect wise we've packed the cupboard. What's not to like? We got top five picks three straight years. Traded vets for picks/prospects. Have stockpiled all kinds of talent. Have more extra picks coming up. Great in terms of salary cap planning. Our key prospects have all improved across the board. What's not to like? We are light years ahead of where we were. It's night and day different.

The only thing that kind of sucks is the injuries. You can't blame the GM or the coach for that.

Yeah, it's a bad start. But in the grand scheme of things the rebuild is going as well as we could've hoped. And half the prospects we've stockpiled aren't even in the league yet. Hage, Roy, Demidov, RB, Beck, Mailloux... these guys are coming soon. How can you not be excited by this?

I find a bit ironic when I see arguments that MSL completely changed players such as CC but can't accept that a different coach could similarly improve the results in our Dzone.

Nothing against Marty, I mentioned very often my first move would not to fire him, as he brings positives to our forwards, he was after all, a very successful forward so he knows a bit about that. But why do you guys think he would be as much successful with Defense is baffling me. He is clearly not. He needs help with a strategist, just like Perron had Jacques Laperriere before. If you want our young guys to develop, they need to be playing with confidence in a good system, not like headless chickens getting destroyed nights after nights.
