Embarrassing and fitting at the same time.

Someone needs to make this team great again.

When the team was actually great, in the 60s, they had one man running the team as coach and GM. The Leafs should look to drain the swamp at MLSE towers and replace them with one person who can implement a proper hard to play against-good pro system and assemble players who are willing to sacrifice for success. Until that happens, this record will only continue to grow.

For the moment, we're still ahead of England, who haven't won an internation football tournament since 1966.

However, yesterday they made it to the finals for the first time in 55 years, so that streak might end on Sunday against Italy.

England also doesn't play in an international tournament every year so less opportunities for them.

Boy it sure is hard finding comparables for our pathetic lack of success, isn't it.

Yup, they know not what they speak of. I do so like being schooled by poster’s who’s perspective on the matter is so green. It’s like a guy who’s been in prison for a week telling a lifer how the prison system works.

Those of us who can remember the 60's isn't getting longer, but let's be honest the circle of life sucks, but it is all we have. One and Done!!!

It's not just the longest Stanley Cup drought. We're also arguably the least successful team in the entire salary cap era. Only two teams have 0 playoff series wins, one of which (the Leafs) has more $$ than anyone else to spend on coaching, management, scouting, development, the ability to front-load contracts, etc, and the other is a team with among the lowest fan support in the entire league and a limited budget.

I wonder if anyone on the MLSE board questions the return on investment this gong show has provided?

Florida also has a couple of legitimate division titles, coming out on top in the regular season in both the old Southeast division and the Atlantic division a few years ago. Without a doubt the Leafs are the worst team in the salary cap era.

Maple Leafs hockey baby, there's nothing like it

The other major difference is that Tampa is smart enough to see when they made a mistake. When they tried the whole 'Skilled but Small' thing and it didn't work because CBJ checked them out of the playoffs...they got bigger and they didn't get useless players like Simmonds to do it. They got players we thought were useless like Schenn and Bogo. They learned from their mistakes and didn't make other half hearted attempts at fixing it or double down on a failed experiment.

If you listen to Cooper...he sounds like a guy who figured out the formula. We have no such person in our management team.

They actually did not do that.

First win
Tampa added Goodrow, Coleman, Maroon, Bogosian, Shattenkirk.
They subtracted Erne, Callahan, Joseph, Miller, Girardi, Stamkos (technically).

Second win
Tampa added Rutta (into the full time lineup), Stamkos, Joseph, Colton, Savard
Subtracted Shattenkirk, Bogosian, Paquette, and Schenn/Verhaeghe/Stephens/etc.

They did not add physicality or change the way they played. They just added better bottom 6 players, which is the same thing we should be doing.
