Joel wasn't shooting him if he didnt pick up that "knife" and stepped up to him.

"If someone brings a knife into a fight, you bring a gun!" It was a scalpel. He only stepped up saying "I won't let you take her." He was defending himself. Unless you want to bring up the South Park excuse "They're heading straight for us!" Also, you think anyone's going to bring up to Abby that his dad had a scalpel? To her, it was the equivalent as unarmed.

He was not defending himself, he literally says and you quoted "I WONT LET YOU TAKE HER" He is defending HER and the CURE and is trying to prevent him from taking her. This is absolutely hilarious how you don't understand what even happened :laugh:

Hard to say something sucks without really experiencing the medium, the narration format of a story is much different in a video game. It might have worked in the game, even if it's not going as well in the show

I agree though,going back to Pedro as the lead made this show drastically more enjoyable, and writing him a bigger role would have been really great TV

But, on the flip side this episode was a top 5 for the series, so Joel's death did create a truly great episode.
In the behind the scenes clip they talk about planning the spaceship scene in s2 to be exactly like the game quite early on in production,like before the second game was even released... so clearly the vision was always to stick to the game, for better or worse.

Yeah no shit it wasn't a fair fight and that's why you don''t step towards someone with a gun while you're holding a knife.

And that 'unarmed' doctor was about to kill an innocent girl without giving her any say so he's not getting sympathy from me. The other 17 he killed were Fireflies who have most likely all killed people too. It's unfortunate they couldn't cure humanity or whatever's left of it but I don't blame Joel at all.

No one here has said they hate Abby, quite the opposite actually. If you're bothered by people hating on Abby on social media or wherever then I would suggest ignoring it.

Most gamers hated TLOU Part II and were hoping HBO would ignore it for season 2 and take the story in a completely different direction. This is basically HBO allowing Druckmann to look in a mirror while he's yanking it and cranking it so to speak.

She was being prepped for surgery LOL. How long do you think it would've taken Joel to wake her up and explain that to her? The Fireflies, Abby's Dr. Father included, are not morally superior here. They made a human sacrifice without consulting the lamb.

You're a big Marvel guy, remember in "Infinity War" when they lightly suggest to just take the Mind Stone out of Vision's head, killing him in the process. Captain America says "We don't trade lives". That's the action of holding yourself to a higher ideal, something a moral group of people do. The Fireflies, in between killing HUNDREDS of people, probably thousands over 20 years, had a 14 year old girl transported across the country just to murder her in hopes of finding a cure. You either see the difference or you don't.

Pretending the Dr. is some saint and that he wasn't prepared to fight to the death to prevent Joel from taking Ellie is being very naive.

I'm just saying it wouldn't have been a fair fight. And the difference to Vision was that Ellie would have given hers. In the show's world, it's a no brainer choice.
 
The whole situation with Ellie reminds me how in the first game, the operating room looks unsanitary and the whole thing looked shady and amateurish.

They retconned that in the second game. The operating room is now clean and the operation looks legitimate. They fleshed out the doctor to show the audience that he was an upstanding citizen.
