Season 1 - Last of Us 1
Ellie "Christmas Special" - DLC (ala the couple of in between episodes for Euphoria)
Season 2 - Last of Us 2

I absolutely love the games. But I feel like both games nicely fit into a 10-12 episode season.

At most maybe you could spread them into 2 seasons.

Season 1 - Last of Us 1 up until right before you play as Ellie for the first time for the nice cliffhanger
Season 2 - Last of Us 1 DLC + rest of game
Season 3 - Last of Us 2 Ellie Part
Season 4 - Last of Us 2 Abby part

Maybe you could throw in a 2 hour movie at the end to cover everything from the farm to the end of the game. But certainly not another full season.

I think any more and you run into major filler.

You're the only one who wants 8 seasons of this

I never said I wanted 8 seasons I said I read HBO wanted 8 seasons.

I did say I don't know how You do that if Sam and Henry are introduced in season 1.

That said I also don't want a 1 or 2 season show, I want it done right not rushed

There is going to be filler regardless because we are getting at least 3 new characters.

Perry and 2 unknown characters played by Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson.

Then there is Frank who is mentioned but never seen in the first game

Forgetting the “HBO wants 8 seasons thing” (as far as I can find with a quick google search this sounded like wishful thinking from Alberta’s premier rather than anything from HBO), why would 1 or 2 seasons per game be rushed?

Sam and Henry are in the first 1/3rd of the game. Where in the story would you even end a season before that point?

The most logical place where they could end it before Pittsburgh, would be after they leave the Boston suburbs. The problem is that means the plot would be stretched really thin. Maybe some people are not remembering things very well, but these games really aren't very long. Especially the first one. Take out the gameplay segments and the plot is really simple even if you add extra moments that were not in the game. They would have to pad it out with a ton of extra filler and i don't know how well that would be received.

That's probably why they are adding a bunch of new characters so that they can pad it out.

I dont think its even that tough to make it up to 8 seasons from just the games.. Especially when I really hope they can catch the dark side of the game properly, im hoping for a really sad/dark series.

And then, introducing the world and the characters in screen is a lot different than in the game. In the game "you are the character", but in screen you just watch them. You might want to add some context, background-flashes, dialogues etc just to give it some more personal touch.

Also, why 10-12 episodes a season? Why not 8?

S1 E1 - First 20 mins just Joel doing Joel things, getting home, then getting to know Sarah (to make it really hurt)´, followed by the chaotic events when zombies attack - really make a chaotic scene that draws audience in - up until the episode ends for the heartbreaking death of Sarah.
S1 E2 - Gapping the 4 years that passed a bit, introducing the "new world", introducing Tess, introducing fireflies. Joel and Tess go head to head with Marlene and the fireflies. Episode ends when Ellie is introduced. You dont even see a zombie in this episode.
S1 E3 - Getting to know Ellie mostly. Them escaping the city, then a big zombie scene. Episode ends as Ellies immunity is revealed.
S1 E4 - One episode of Joel, Tess and Ellie just on a road. Bonding. Backgrounding the fireflies, Ellie more, and the whole immunity thing and maybe end the episode as Tess find out she has been bitten.
S1 E5 - Tess dies guns banging when the army-guys attack. Joel and Ellie fight em epically. They get safe when at the end of the episode Henry and Sam rescue them.
S1 E6 - Getting close with Henry and Sam, backrounding Henry and Sam. All about Henry and Sam. Episode ends when Henry and Sam leave Joel and Ellie when the hurd is chasing them.
S1 E7 - Joel and Ellie manage to escape the hurd/bridge. Henry and Sam comeback. Zombies baaaawgggg. Episode ends when Sam turns, and Henry kills em both.
S1 E8 - Joel and Ellie make it out of the zombie swallen city. They plan their route, decide to go see Bill. Something something big. Episode ends as Joel is swinging head down from the roof (Bills trap) shooting the zombies, and at the final second Bill saves them. SCENE - we will be back for season2.

Theres still lots of stuff left for S2 and even S3 from just the first game. Tommy-saga. Adventures in a city against criminal mobs and zombies. The whole part where Joel almost dies and Ellie goes on solo can be multiple episodes. Then getting Ellie there with the fireflies, to the part where Joel kills Marlene and saves Ellie while possibly dooming the mankind to extinction.

And im not even starting with the second game. Thats deep as shit and theres like a million storylines on where you can expand a bit.

Needles to say im excited for the show. Please give me 8 seasons and do this as it deserves to be, no rushing needed to get there :)

I used to be a big fan of Walking Dead...and I still watch because I wanna see how it ends. But Walking Dead's two biggest issues and failures is that it too quickly became about "omg, look at all the bad humans out there!" instead of worrying about the zombies who were supposed to be the main bad guys. Also the group went from going out on the road adventuring/discovering what's left of the world (fun to watch as a tv viewer) to "hey, let's settle down here, in this boring ass prison/town and make the show slow and boring to watch!".

My point is - I loved the games, both 1 and 2. But I'd have absolutely no issue whatsoever if they take liberties with the story. To me the strength of the game was always the characters, their relationship, and the world they travel throughout....I'd be fine if they expand a lot on that, travel to different cities/outposts etc. So much room to expand into multiple seasons that way, and grow the story

Yeah... the zombies were never the primary antagonists of the Walking Dead. Thinking so shows your complete lack of familiarity with the source material. TWD has always been like 28 Days Later, while the zombies present an immediate danger and the cause of society's downfall, the core of the narrative is much more about how humans would act (and more importantly, interact) in a post-apocalyptic landscape. TLoU and TLoU2 are very much in this vein as well.

There is a time skip in the game after they leave the Pittsburgh suburbs. They will surely use that time to pad it out.
They’ll probably do flashbacks as opposed to doing a linear storyline

The Last of Us takes about 16 hours to complete (generously). And, presumably, the TV version isn't going to spend time looking for collectables or on revive screens. Cutting it to 12 1-hour-ish (HBO hours) episodes isn't going to rush the core plot much at all. It should certainly not be stretched beyond two seasons, or else there's a ton of unneeded filler being crammed in.

The DLC and TLOU2 (neither of which are guaranteed to be part of this show) add another 25 hours or so combined. Nowhere near enough material to support anything close to "8 seasons"
Neil has stated that the show is a full and faithful retelling of the game, and he's considered TLOU2 to be a second chapter of the story. I think it's all but guaranteed they're going to cover it in the show if it succeeds.

First look! Pedro sounds identical to Joel wow

Important to note this is an HBO teaser, so not just for TLOU, hence the dragon

he sure does, that was one of my big concerns but he's bang on.

So is Nick Offerman as Bill.

Still not sure about Bella Ramsay as Ellie, I would have went with Masie Williams, she was supposedly cast to play Ellie when the Series was a movie instead.

Sarah looks nothing like Sarah

I was like "OK, so it's like TWD but without the zombies" then that creature appeared.

I know nothing about the game(?). I'll give this one a chance.

First look at the Infected I think. Looks pretty grotesque. Good job, even if it makes me a bit squeamish. But that's a me-problem.

Assuming you didn't play the game. One of the best stories of all time

So damn excited for this. Looks amazing
Nope, Xbox only. But it's zombies/post-apocalyptic and I have no interest in those type of games. I'm so fed up with the genre and only watching TWD anymore because I want to see how it ends.

Never played game (Last video game I played was Madden 2004) but remember the React channel playing it years ago and watching that stuff

Seemed entertaining and this movie looks like a very faithful adaption of the basic premise and is well cast

Will give it a look as a fan of horror/etc + Its HBO so I expect it will be top quality no matter what
