Man, the Rangers were looking SET. I was a big fan of the way they were rebuilding/retooling but it really hasn't gone well. Luckily the team success part of it has gone well due to having a really good veteran core. But the future they were building through the 2017-2020 drafts? An absolute flop really. It's almost impressive in a way.

its because the Rangers tried to draft for the future while signing big free agents and making traded for veterans

you cant rebuild while needing yo give half the lineup of vets ice time!

plus their draft picks, on top of that, were mostly bad choices! and really poor luck with Kakko and Lafreniere!!

Don't get the hate, great player. Expecting 60+ pts this year.
This. These ppl nowdays are just ridiculous. "We want this and we want it now!!!!" Like a bunch of 5 years old children. Grow up for frick sake, some players get better when getting less pressure. "I want him to be the best when he comes to NHL". Really? Trade him to Carolina for 3rd if you dont like him, he will be a star there.

Could still turn into a decent middle 6 or second line forward. If the pressure of being a first overall pick doesn't get to him.

Im curious, did you ignore the GP? Regardless, he hasn't been great. I agree. Not sure he is worst of those as he brings more than, for example, Nail did when not having the puck.

Also when adjusting for GP it seems as though he is better than a few of these "busts" so far.
Scoring was much lower when Yakupov played than it is right now.

Stefan doesn't count because he was effectively the 3rd overall pick, not 1st overall(no matter where he was actually picked).

Lafreniere might be better than Lawton, simply because Lawton played during an era with incredibly high scoring. But that's not a massive achievement.

I remember last year going around with this Rags fan who claimed he was going to be a star and they shouldn’t trade him at the deadline. Good times…..lol. Where did that guy go. He is a mute now

First 3 seasons.

Lafreniere: 216 GP, 91p, 0.421p/g
D. Sedin : 233 GP, 97p, 0.416p/g
H. Sedin: 242 GP, 104p, 0.430p/g

We can safely say he's on pace to be better than Daniel but worse than Henrik Sedin.

Regardless of how Laf's career goes, I hope I see comparisons like this at the start of every season of his.

If he has another average year, who do you guys have lined up for the first 4 seasons comp?

He'll end up being (IMO) an effective passenger on a 1st or second line- like the Toronto version of Zach Hyman without McDavid to inflate his points. Nothing wrong with that, but very disappointing for a first overall pick.

The offensive tools just aren't there. He's not dangerous carrying the puck and his processing speed is average. It makes him significantly easier to defend, and those two things aren't something many guys can improve much once they're already in their 4th year in the league.
