If the players really went to Sather and blamed the coach they all need to take a long hard look in the mirror.
But when did he lose the locker room? They got off to a miserable start. Did he lose them during the lockout when he couldn't speak to his team or did he lose the room during the playoff run last year? This is ridiculous. If he had truly lost the team then they wouldn't have come back in the series against Washington.
If it's true that the players told Sather they couldn't play for him they're soft. They sound like the fans putting all the blame on one guy. Who the hell tunes out a coach that just brought you to a Conference Finals?
Mentally, I hope they don't turn into a team full of Ovechkins.
He didn't say Gabby was the only player that needed to step up in the playoffs and he was right about it. If this group of players thinks they're going to win a cup they better step up their games. It was the same thing this year. Nash didn't step up. What's his excuse?
Is there a "best of" Torts video clip of his rants/funny moments?

This is what worries me the most, and I really want to know what actually happened in that locker room. But I have a really hard time believing that Torts would not have been receptive had Richards, Cally, Girardi and Hank went up to him with these "concerns" that the players apparently had. He's always been stubborn, but he respected his players and their opinions. From all the stories, it sounds like our leaders in the locker room went whining to Sather to get what they want...which frankly makes me sick.
Players that blocked shot after shot, year after year, getting in the way of laser pucks, some like Staal taking them off the head, are whiny little babies who didn't want to play such a tough style of play. Yeaaaaaah............
Good luck with that argument.......
Gabby was the only one he mentioned by name, and he played the last 2 series with a torn labrum in his shoulder...do you really think that Gabby deserved to be singled out after playing through that injury?

Everyone in the NHL blocks shots, nothing special there...yea the rangers did it more than most two seasons ago. But you're missing my point anyway, I'll be very disappointed if these guys went straight to Sather without going to their coach first and telling him how they felt. The same coach who got the best out of his players and helped them develop. The same coach who listened to their concerns at other points of the last few seasons.

Well, nobody else has started one, so I'm going to. He deserves one.
He didn't take us to the promised land, but he took us further than we've gone since 1997. I was a senior in high school.
Last season didn't end with a Cup, but it was still very special, nonetheless. In fact, it was the highest I've felt from Rangers hockey since the spring of '94.
The way he was with the media, to me, was a breath of fresh air. In an era where people just utter the same boring, cliche BS, I loved every second of it.
Thank you, Torts, for all that you did here. Now go save some more pups![]()

Since we don't know... I have to ask...
What makes you think Torts would be approachable from Richards, Cally, Girardi or Hank? What makes you think those players would walk up to him (again, I'm playing Devil's advocate here) and bring up "concerns"?
What makes you think he'd be "receptive" to what they think or feel?
I thought he was a good coach, not great, not perfect, but good and exactly what NYR needed when he came in. He seemed to really instill a solid work ethic in the guys after years of country club BS around the organization. Also, last year was the best year for Rangers hockey in a long, long time and it was in large part due to the system that Torts set up for that roster.
A lot of posters who had been saying "anyone but Torts" are about to get their wish next year. I think that the team can do much, much worse than they have the past two years, and if NYR makes a mistake on the new guy, we're all about to see just what thats like.

The 'pro' Renney people said the same exact thing.
It's possible that a new coach will get to the exact same levels as the two before him, then who will you blame and say 'i was right!' to ?
Boy, do they ever. There is a "delusional sentiment" around here that this team has enough talent to contend with the elite teams for a cup when in reality, the Rangers aren't even remotely in the same stratosphere as ****sburgh, LA, Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Vancouver, etcetera.
It's really laughable when some posters classify our roster as "loaded!" Lol!!
Who am I blaming and saying I'm right to now?
Your rant totally insinuates the worst case scenario to the 'anyone but Torts' crowd.
The way he acts in front of the media is not the way he acts all the time.
That two sentence "rant?" I'm saying that there are in fact worse coaches in the world than Torts and that it's not impossible that NYR's inept management ends up hiring one of them. I still don't see how that's putting blame on anyone or suggesting that I was right about something. I'm sorry if the idea that Torts isn't the absolute worst coach in the entire world hurts anybody's feelings.
