Lots of skilled, young players are going to have off-ice issues. I think management needs to learn how to deal with these issues in non-confrontational ways. Instead of just pawning off the issues onto someone else, it would be much better if we could keep talented players and actually fix mental problems. That would be a huge step forward for the franchise.

Not all can be fixed then which leads back into that asset management. I wouldn't start learning of how to do rehabilitating acts with young millionaires either.

Maybe.

My whole qualm with the situation has less to do with Johansen and Jones's abilities and more the FO's inability to deal with "problem children."

I see this approach you are espousing as directly counter to the approach of gutting the country club (not that I think the Jackets are especially like that.) When JD says "we will not be outworked", how can he be non-confrontational when a player comes along who openly flouts that?

A lot of young players are immature and problematic, but Joey was really something else.

Yeah. He led the team in scoring by a wide margin his third year. Sixteenth in league his fourth year. You are right. He really was something else.

Not acknowledging the role the FO and coach played in his lackluster performance this season is willfully ignorant or blindly defensive of this sad sack FO and coach.

As far as I could see most of the problems were on the ice...Joey wasn't Voynov or Richards.

Can I ask what methods you recommend for dealing with a situation such as Joey's lack of effort on the ice?

I truly believe this goes back to the mysterious heart ailment that was proven to be no ailment at all. That was followed by "can't trade me now #probtho" I'm convinced there's more to that episode than we may ever know.

I may have missed several things. I've been really tied up in work for a while and honestly, the Jackets have slipped way down in my top of mind awareness. What do you mean his ailment was proven to be no ailment at all?

I wonder what more there could be?

Was it truly lack of effort? I have noticed a few things about big highly skilled players. They often skate in these long strides that look lazy. They sometimes go through cold streaks where they just can't seem to score. Crosby just went through this, Toronto fans often criticized Kessel for this. I've seen this posted about Joe Thornton, and I remember Rick Nash going on these cold streaks as well. Was Johansen on a cold streak or dogging it?

It's not a "big skilled" thing like Thornton. There's a lot more going on with Joey. I'm surprised this is still contested. We can debate what in particular is his issue, but there's no way his play on the ice can be excused as Thorntonesque.

I don't have time to find it now, but there's a recent sportsnet segment on Johansen's play on Nashville, with a lot of folks weighing in, all very negative. Kelly Hrudey said he was planning on doing a positive story on Johansen, but after reviewing his recent games, he could only find negative things to say.

My own judgment on Johansen's play is well established, but if you're still under the illusion that he's just a big skilled misunderstood player, perhaps you should listen to what former players have to say about his play.

I'm not debating it, I'm asking a legitimate question. I stopped going to CBJ games and don't watch them that often either anymore. I just check the scores and this site, but that's all a topic for a different thread.

Can you give illustrations or game video showing what you're saying? I honestly don't know how he looked this season. I don't know any more about Ryan's play than I do about how Galchenyuk or Bennett have played this season.

Other than the silly punch this is basically the way he has played all year.

And though few remember it, it's basically the way he played for much of the Fall of 2014. (Back then we had an entire thread devoted to figuring out what illness he might have had).

I somewhat agree with you here. We are a few pieces away from actually being a solid team. Now, whether or not that translates to consistency is another thing.

In a perfect world, this is what the roster should look like (with xxx in place of pieces we need to draft/acquire/sign/develop)

Saad-xxx-xxx
Jenner-Wennberg-Atkinson
Hartnell-Dubinsky-Foligno
Rychel-Karlsson-Calvert
Boll/Clarkson/Campbell as dead weight

Murray-Jones
Johnson-Savard
xxx-Goloubef
Tyutin/Prout/Falk as dead weight

This is why it is extremely important to draft in the top-3 this season. One of those xxx's will be filled immediately and for the future with one of Matthews or the Finns. We really lack a skilled forward (or two) that can play top-line minutes AND produce against the oppositions best defenders. We also lack a solid bottom pairing on defense when healthy. Jarmo has plenty of work looking ahead to fix these holes with players that are not short-term bandages (ahem, Gregory Campbell).

I think it'd go something like this in 2 years:

Saad-XXXX(Matthews??)-Bjorkstrand/Milano
Jenner-Dubinsky-Atkinson
Rychel-Wennberg-Foligno
Calvert-Chaput/Karlsson-Anderson

Murray-Jones
Werenski-Savard
Carlsson-Goloubef
Paliotta

Something like that. Have to hope Clarkson goes on LTIR or is picked up in the expansion draft. Time to move out Hartnell and Tyutin while you can get something in return. I can see Johnson on the way out next TDL if Werenski is NHL-ready.

Thanks for posting that. I didn't find it quite as damning as you. Hrudey says I went into this looking for all these great things he did in that period and didn't find them. Kypreos then says he's a 30 goal scorer who's close to a point per game. We need to remember he's only 23.

What I saw were a couple of mistakes - Hossa pwned him on that play;Hossa has taken a lot of players to school. He let some desire to check Letestu take him out of a play. Not a good decision but neither play give me the impression of a lazy player.

You're right, my memory of it was worse than it was, and I get how you might view Joey's play in the video as innocuous. But those aren't isolated instances. That's the normal way Joey plays.

He's not been up to it in Nashville. Not with that kind of frequency, anyways. Preds fans love him to death. He's been dominating games.

Trade proposals, rumors, our perspectives... I don't expect anything special before our front office ( JD and JK) contract expires next year. Here two weeks before deadline time to work hard on trades ( to get cap space) but where our GM?

He is in Finland, yesterday, participates in "Winner" seminars ( Savo)
5549557.jpg

speaking nice words like "Winning is great , but the journey there is often the finest experience", "The Objectives and the environment must be balanced. From the outside , no one knows , for example, where ice hockey team is capable of" and etc

One month ago. January 16. Again Finland, Helsinki, WJC
Jarmo_Kek_l_inen.jpg

Why he had to be in Finland personally if we have group of European scouts with director Ville Siren ( if I remember correctly)?

But if our owner happy with this situation and FO job...

There's this remarkable thing called The Internet. It, combined with other modern telecommunications technologies, makes it possible to do one's job without necessarily being tied to a specific geographic locale, because it allows the exchange of ideas between folks from very different locations. For example! You appear to be in eastern Europe. I'm in central North America. And yet we still get to have this conversation, thanks to the incredible capabilities of the Internet.

I suspect, despite being in different places than Columbus, Jarmo Kekalainen can also make use of this wonderful, revolutionary tool to get things done. ;)

seriously, this is an absurd thing to be kvetching about.

Viqsi knows about kvetching and I agree with her, this is nothing worth kvetching about.
