A non-playoff team .... A team that clearly didn't want to be there ... and a team that got to the 2nd round by beating a lottery team.

The islanders had one of the easiest walks to the Conference Final the NHL has seen in a very long time.
Riggghtt. Panarin for the putt on 18.

Ah, well you need to have been in our shoes for the past 25 years to understand.
Hehe, I guess it's fair to be a little defensive after the past couple decades ;)

Just saying that you should enjoy the run, no matter what people say. Having your team make it this far comes around far too rarely for most of us. Take it from someone who has family members who support the Detroit Lions

and water is not wet

Fish don't fry in the kitchen
Beans don't burn on the grill
Took a whole lotta tryin'
Just to get up that hill

Now we're up in the big leagues
Gettin' our turn at bat
As long as we live
It's you and me, baby
There ain't nothin' wrong with that

They are boring but insanely effective. Remind me of some of the old 'park the bus' soccer teams.

We are considered boring because we don't give up many chances and don't get many chances. We clog the middle of the ice, which makes it difficult for teams to get into the slot. In our end, we prefer allowing teams to cycle along the perimeter while maintaining defensive structure. So yes, we are boring because we don't give many scoring chances but that's also what makes us great.

We were considered an exciting high octane offensive team under Weight, unfortunately we were also terrible.

If it was their team playing "boring" hockey all the way up to conference finals I'm 100% sure they would be the last ones complaining. This place is full of unself-aware types like that

Of course I wouldn't be complaining if it was my team in the conference finals. However, I would NOT be making threads about how my objectively boring team is not in fact boring.

Game 5 was one of the the most boring games of hockey I've seen in recent years (and I'm a Sabres fan).

Annnddd, adding the Canes to post #201.

Why would I be salty about the Islanders being there as opposed to the Flyers or Habs or Pens or Caps or whoever?

Look, I can appreciate a tactical hockey game. There were a number of occasions in Game 5 where the play flowed for minutes at a time, which is pretty good hockey, but there were no real scoring chances because the two teams were in a chess match to dominate the middle of the ice. I get all that.

But come on, let's not pretend that that style of hockey is just as entertaining as trading scoring opportunities and letting the game be determined on skill. Nobody is such a hockey purist that they are more interested in a failed zone entry than in an odd-man rush. Even if you appreciate the tactical discipline of that style, it's not exciting. It's just not.

Yeah and what I am saying is that outside of Barzal, the Islanders are well below average in terms of entertainment compared to what one comes to expect in most NHL hockey games.
And those who disagree with you would say any team that takes out the Panthers, Caps, Flyers and is giving the best team in the league all they can handle , while throwing 75 hits a game is anything but boring.

Entertainment is rather subjective wouldn't you say..............not stat that you can rate.

Collectively the islanders are playing an excellent brand of hard hitting hockey. That wins. To me that is entertaining to watch take place.

Because you hate to see them win.
Didnt hate to see them win 3 years ago. Frequently rooted for them against most teams and would play as them in EA cause i liked the potential they had. Wonder what changed. Maybe its cause they got super f***ing boring.

"This team I don't like isn't exciting enough."

Okay there fellas.
This is such a stupid take. I hate the penguins more then any team in the league but no one is calling them boring. I hate at least 10 teams more then the islanders possibly 15 depending on the season and still dont call any of them boring. Your entire argument is made up and stupid. The only reason i am raging against the islanders now is because its a copy cat league and if a boring as f*** paint drying grass growing boring ass team wins and people start copying that boring ass style its going to be annoying. 31 teams in the league. 29 aren't boring. 1 is because they are rebuilding and have no assets that can drive a game. The last is the islanders who are in the ECF. NO EXCUSE TO BE THAT BORING. none.

Actually Playoff hockey is generally more boring than regular-season games, why? Everyone is trying to block shots and the goalies are more on the top of their games. A lot of goals are scored with the screen in front or off deflections or even being fluky.

That's so obviously the issue. I can't agree more. Take some of the blocked shots out of the game, it's made hockey brutal to watch unless you have vested interest in your team. It's a huge problem for the sport, it's become nearly impossible to get shots up the middle.

Yeah the Islanders are the kings of boring, but remember game 1 of the WCF? That may have been the most boring game i've ever seen... until game 5 of the ECF. I mean I loved game 5, but it was objectively brutal hockey with someone who has no interest in the NYI or TBL. But if you're a team like the Isles facing a team like Tampa in an elimination game, you have to be stupid not to play like that.

Seriously - what is Montreal's obsession with the Flyers now? Did we do something to your fan base that we're unaware of? Did Carter Hart win too many games against Price or something?

You just beat us in the playoffs remember ? And I still remember the year Biron and Umberger played unreal. Always feel like the Flyers beat us but don't really play well and make out like bandits. Hence why I like them beaten afterwards. It's a band aid on a still open injury.

It's absolutely is exciting. Just like I'd rather watch a 2-1 pitchers' duel in baseball that features lots of strikeouts, a bunting a guy over, and hitting behind the runner as opposed to a 5-4 game with 4 homers.

The hockey equivalent of that type of baseball game is a goalie duel decided by greasy goals.

What we are talking about here is not a goalie duel. We are talking about a game where 90% of the play is featureless. The baseball equivalent to that is a 2-1 game where there are like 40 pop flies and slow ground-outs. Baseball fans have no problem admitting that you can get a good nap in during a game like that.

Baloney - The goalies in this series have had to make tons of tough saves. And there has been plenty of action in the high danger zones. Look, I get it. the Canes are not in the playoffs. Get over it. Go watch golf if it's bothering you so much. Same for all the other whiny posters.
