I think trading Hagel was fine. They really wanted to completely start over. That is why they were really hoping to move on from Kane and Toews. They wanted to start fresh.

They also wanted to be really f***ing bad.

They got a guy that scored 20 goals this year, they got two future 1st round picks as well. Hagel's value was never going to be higher.

Hagel was a hellll of a trade of Tampa. I wouldnt have thought this production in a million years. 59 points and 27 goals in 72 games. I really hope he gets paid after next year because thats a hell of an underpayment right now.

lol, no he's not.

Sure you can laugh all you want but the fact remains that odds of us getting a player same calibre player in any draft pics we got are very slim. We need 1st liners, 3 of them to be exact, we need 2nd liners, 3 of them to be exact. This team is filled with 3rd and 4th liners, how do you think we can fill that void exactly? Anyway like always most people here just don’t get it.

He's a good player, he isn't a player you build around, let's be real. He's a good secondary player that you can put on your top 2 lines to be carried by players you can actually build your team around.

This just shows how your understanding is lacking of the game of hockey, Hagel is not just a point producer, he’s great defensively, he has hustle like no other on the team, he has energy like no other and pumps the team up, not to mention he’s only 24 and he’s 4th in points on a good Tampa team and those points will most likely keep going up. To say he’s a secondary player is mind boggling. Anyway will look at this in 3 years, you will still be telling me I am wrong and I will refer you to this and what you said and you will just say ignore it and don’t live in the past. People have zero future vision is crazy.

If Domi wants to come back on 1 yr deal fine

But any multi-year deal at $4M or more would be mistaken for
Prefer a one year deal. But a 2 year deal wouldn’t be terrible if needed. Will be interesting to see how they fill out the roster again for guys to hopefully flip next deadline

Much rather offer to someone like Domi who works his ass off every shift (even though he's terrible defensively), looks out for his teammates, professional off the ice, etc. Hawks are trying to develop a different culture here for the kids now and down the road. Domi is a guy who helps with that.

I don't see anything wrong with offering Domi a 3x3 (or something comparable).

He wants to play in Chicago, he adds sandpaper to the lineup, seems to be well liked in the locker room, the team needs good veterans to lead the younger guys, etc.
Done easily if that’s the deal.

agreed. Also gives a guy like Reichel and bedard;) someone with offensive talent to play with.

I was going to say 2 years at 5. It is an over pay but have to reach the cap floor some how. 2 years doesn’t hurt and it would reward Domi for being a team player and help mentor the players coming into the league.

I do not want the Blackhawks to spend money on defensemen. The forwards are still the weak point in the prospect pool and is the natural spot to sign vets. Need to find out which of the young D are going to stick.

And someone who will protect them.
But on a 1 year deal he can be traded at the TDL again. Then re-sign him again if you want.
Domi won't take a 1 year deal.

At this point in his career, he'll be looking for something with term.

He's not coming back to Chicago if the intention is to flip him at the deadline again. As far as the Hawks are concerned, he's already done his service in that regard.

I agree with this. It is crappy to a player to sign again just to try and flip. These are real people, not digits on NHL23.

Same thing about people wanting to sign Kane in the summer to a one year deal and flip at the TDL. If Kane re-signs (he isn’t), it would be for term so he can retire as a Blackhawk.

Well the word last year was Toronto was his only other offer and it was for a million less.
Domi isn’t stupid he knew he was signed to be flipped and if Chicago comes calling again with 1 year @ 3 mill I’m betting he comes back.
Personally (I haven’t looked at who is going to be UFA) I’d rather someone new. Domi did “ok” last year (flipped to the Canes) but didn’t stand out. He’s been pretty pedestrian this year though we will see what the playoffs bring.

Let's wait to see if he actually helps Dallas.

If they bow out in the first round after a lackluster stint in D, teams aren't going to burn a 4th (or anything) on him next deadline. Better to spend the money taking on a bad contract and players with years of control left imo.
