Not that they have a choice but it still would be ballsy as f*** for a contenter to enter the playoffs with two 800k goalies though. Damn.

All they have to do is to send him down to the AHL. His contract expires at the end of the season and the 2 goalies we have make league minimum.
And the fact is, Georgiev is still very likely to get another shot even if that happens. It's highly unlikely that Kähkönen/Annunen will become this unbelievable tandem from now on in.

Waive him and maybe you get lucky and some team claims him or he goes down to AHL
He would not be claimed. Samsonov was basically in the same spot last year and no-one touched him.

Teams don't know how to attack Annunen yet, and the Avs don't give up a ton of entries that lead to 3-5 shots on net.
This becomes a big issue if we enter the playoffs with him as our #1. Teams will scout him and they play him night after night.

I can’t imagine anyone wanting Georgiev
There are always teams lacking a goaltender. Looking at the lowest SV% with at least 3 games played this season:

Fedotov PHI .821
Georgiev COL .822
Jarry PIT .836
Varlamov NYI .856
Ingram UTA .864
Vanecek SJS .869
Skinner EDM .872
Ersson PHI .872
Levi BUF .874
Nedeljkovic PHI .874
Rittich LAK .874
Pickard EDM .875
etc.

I do think Georgiev's value has plummeted, but even so, someone will be in the same situation as us and willing to gamble on someone who's at least been good at some point.

Anyway I would play Kähkönen for a couple of games. If he does well, then do whatever with Georgiev.

I wrote this in the other goalie panic topic, but I'll say it here too, Kähkönen needs to play first and he needs to play well. We would look very silly if we get rid of Georgiev, and then Kähkönen performs just as bad or worse.

It won't even take until the playoffs. Right now teams are gathering tape and starting to prepare for him. Two weeks ago they hadn't done that. Tampa, Nashville, Winnipeg and Carolina will all be expecting Annunen to start. Seattle is the up in the air game, so they may not.

I've stated this before, but one massive issue with Annunen is that he hasn't really started against anyone who even remotely looks like a contender. Last season finale against Oilers being the exception to the rule.

It is not his fault. But that doesn't make him any more proven in those games. Nov 8th @ Winnipeg and Nov 10th against Carolina are two games that I would absolutely give to Annunen assuming he is healthy.

The Avs have to do what Edmonton did last season. The Oilers rode their welfare tandem of Skinner and Pickard to the Cup Finals.

It doesn't matter if Annunen or Kahkonen are the answer because at this point getting rid of Georgiev is addition by subtraction.

I can't remember how bad it got with Campbell before Edmonton finally waived him.

His February and March on 22/23 season were also... rough

no one will want a bad goalie with red flags. waive him or buy him out. would cost less than one million this season and next. so in other words, would open 2.4M now and would mean one AHLer less next season.

Is mutual contract termination a possibility? I only ask because I don't want him anywhere near the Eagles. Additionally, I don't think Fourgiev probably has much trade value either.

Can you buy out at any point or is it during a certain time of year only?

The mutual termination, I don't think he'd go for that.
