I think people have always been this stupid but they just weren't able to congregate in large masses to share their harebrained ideas with one another until social media became a thing. Blame Zuckerberg.

Agreed. Back in the 80's and 90's instead of staring at their phones all day they'd be staring at their televisions. In general life demands enough of your time to make learning new things difficult. It's much easier to absorb narrative and have opinions on things than to take time and earn the knowledge through reading and discussion.

I'm hopeful for the human race. Enough people work hard and are a good to each other for us to gradually get to a place where life is very good for most. We'll probably need to overthrow our corporate owners and restructure our political system in a way which dampens the effect of corruption and greed. Many ways to skin a cat there.
