GDT: The Four Nations Tournament Thread

I’m comfortable with entry level workers being higher maintenance but anybody who is a director, VP or in the C suite better be high functioning or I will walk them out of the building myself.

Theirs so much talent out there. I can’t waste my time coaching or mentoring somebody is making 1-2-300K a year.
I really don’t think you can compare hockey players to restructuring a company coming out of CCAA protection. There is no salary cap, 8yr contracts, injuries that hinder high level athletic performance amongst the top earners, etc etc etc

Marner makes his appearance after having his name channeled and goats sacrificed all game.

Disappointed in Petey. Was great defensively and didn't fit at all with Forsberg, but lost almost every faceoff and clearly didn't want the puck on his stick in OT. Cmon, you're the highest paid guy, at least try to make something happen. Willy didn't do anything either but you can tell he tried.

87 sure has some good pretenders, but none can touch his throne. OV is going to break Gretzky's untouchable goals record an Crosby will always be the better player. He was born to play hockey and never compromised. The true Canadian hero.

some nice nationalism about sid here haha: At a time when we’re searching for identity, Sidney Crosby represents the very best of Canada

as stupid as this tournament is as a premise, it's real nice to see the best of our generation wearing the maple leaf together

That was a hell of a lot more fun to watch than an All Star Game. Have to give Binnington some flowers - he was huge in OT (albeit suspect during regulation resulting in the OT in the first place).

Crosby is just insane. What a legend.

I thought Petey, and all of Sweden, had a really good, workmanlike game. Obviously they’ll be disappointed they didn’t win the game, but I think that’s a great effort in a game that really had an opportunity to go their way. Strong effort and don’t sleep on Sweden here.

Petey gonna be on the 4th line

Just absolutely useless
Lindholm was worse. Zibanejad had an absolutely awful back check on one of the goals.

They’re all shit rn except for JEE, who’s tasked with a role where he isn’t going to do anything of substance offensively.

But I do think he was Sweden’s second best C in this game. Again, not good, but relatively.. he was their second best.

Nylander was so damn terrible. Cost them two goals then missed an open net in OT. Also, learn to change should have been a penalty in OT because he does know how to change properly.

Sweden lost this game because we simple skate better than Sweden. Their D were very good but they play the exact same style as Canada but slower.

We as fans have no idea how important 2010 was, to us as Vancouverites. We saw a team overcome adversity and win. I had many times where I bailed out on Canada, but then our best players were all young guys and BC players. We won on the strength of our character, and we always will when we choose to.

It's the best life lesson I've ever been taught.

Aside from Pettersson’s offensive play, I was disappointed in Filip Forsberg. Helluva player but he was a complete nonfactor.

Pettersson was #8 out of 12 in ice time for Swedish forwards tonight.

Bratt, Eriksson Ek, Forsberg, Kempe, Nylander, Rakell, Raymond and Zibanejad all had more ice time than him.

He played more than Nyquist, Arvidsson and Lindholm.

He is probably one of the only cases where it’s justified. MacKinnon’s choo choo train bull runs are insane to watch. It’s like McDavid but with double the force

Yep. In a game with low shot totals and everyone playing it safe, having a straight ahead monster that charges through everyone and gets the puck on net is refreshing and needed.

Looked like fairly typical Pettersson this season, good defensive game but not dynamic offensively at all.

Sweden has some good wingers, but definitely not great down the middle. Their defense is a unit.

Canada was pretty chaotic most of the game, skated absolute miles but looked disjointed most of the time.

Those were such low IQ plays too.

Like yes, you are fast.

Why are you driving into three players and taking a low percentage shot that the goaltender easily stops?

Adrenaline is a hell of a drug, my friend. Also our body just makes it. He and McD were awful tonight and fell right into the Sweden trap of tortoising.

That's MacKinnon's whole MO. It works because he does it by volume every shift of every game.

I don't think Canada generated anything outside their top players and the two teams certainly don't play the same style at all. The difference was Sweden's top players didn't show up (Willy and Petey making 11M each at the bottom of the forward ratings) and Binnington recovered after the third goal against.

This is the new NHL. Naturally, Canadians already get it because c'mon...we all grew up watching hockey...lol. If you're posting here, you're Canadian. We're not particularly fast learners, I had my own difficulties in school. But when we latch onto something, we have to know it inside and out because it's just...fascinating.

Or maybe it's my inner golden retriever.

Yeah this. If Sweden's top guys show up they probably win that. Zibanejad, Pettersson, Nylander and Forsberg were all not great. Their "third line" looked like their best. They tried juggling the top-six a bit later in the game, but still none of those guys generated much.

If they got any offense out of those guys, the defense and Gustavsson probably take that.
