The Four Nations Tournament Thread

Can't say i really care about this tournament. It feels like another contrived, half baked NHL product.
I'm actually really excited for it.

Shame that Hughes, Miller, Pettersson and Boeser likely won't be playing but we can still root for Canada.

with injury issues, i don’t want any of our guys playing

that said, there is a small part of me that wants to send miller and petey just to get them around elite players who aren’t each other and hopefully get enrgized by the experience. maybe some time in a different team dynamic also gives each of them a little perspective too.

Crosby is the most obvious captain of all the teams.

I think Forsberg or Hedman for Sweden.
Barkov for Finland.
Should be Hughes for USA - I think the suggestion of Matthew Tkachuk is insane. If it's not Hughes, I could see them going with one of their vets, like Nelson, Kreider or Trochek.

Karlsson will likely be captain for Sweden (since he was during the last World Cup-when Hedman also played).

Tkachuk I could see cause of the recent Cup but let's be serious, Hughes is the real choice.

Some Toronto people think Matthews is a lock, which is obviously an asinine choice (albeit I wouldn't even be surprised if it happens).

Barkov and Crosby seem like locks to me, Sweden hard to say.

Am I the only one who feels this tournament is being a little too overhyped by the fans? If it was a 10 team tournament that featured Russia, then yeah I'd be pretty hyped about it myself. But this just feels like a glorified exhibition (which it technically is, as it serves as this year's all-star festivities.

Obviously, I'd like Canada to win. But couldn't care less if we do or don't.

The media along with NHL bots on X seem to be hyping this up. No one I personally know seems to give a rats ass about this tournament.

Pretty much this. The NHL and the media stooges are hyping the hell out of it but nobody I know (including me*) gives the slightest shit about it.

* I find some of the roster discussion stuff interesting but the hockey component not interesting at all. An international tournament with no Russia and no Czech Republic (and no Slovakia) isn't really an international tournament.

On top of everything mentioned already, I can't help but think the effort level from the players will be on par with a typical all-star game.

Meaning boring, non-competitive, lackadaisical hockey because no one wants to risk getting injured in meaningless games.

Think of it like a college football playoff style thing. Czech Republic and Slovakia are Div. 2 and Russia is like a Southern Methodist eating bigly sanctions for their asshole ways.
