I think there is more nuance to this, though. Certainly, we can all agree, I think, that Petey is generally putting in the effort on the ice, although I do think he is cheating to the defensive side of the puck, and isn't attacking enough with the puck or on offense. But this isn't a Loui Eriksson situation or anything, clearly.
But in many ways, the on ice play of a player is the tip of the iceberg and what us fans see, but in reality, there is a ton of on ice and off ice preparation that goes into it and is a prerequisite to the player performing on ice during games. And we don't know if Petey has/had put in the effort to this aspect of the game, and indeed, Allvin has publicly criticized him for not doing so.
So I think its too simplistic to just look at Petey trying hard (mostly on the defensive side of the game) and just conclude that effort isn't an issue.
