Getting cross checked into a metal bar at the force he was will cause anyone injury unless they’re Superman. Brittle? Give me a break. The injury happened in the Finland game, not the Canada game.

Shut him down and let him heal up. Enjoy his time with Rhys. I’m glad Chuck is a Bruin. Sometimes he’s the only one on the team that plays pissed off besides Zadorov.

I’m honestly not sure how someone could watch his (hurt) performance in USA-Canada and infer they don’t want him on their team.
Greatest ability in sports is availability. As I said, dirty cheap shot by a repeat offender. (Armia has a history of cheap shotting people)
McAvoy is not built to play the way he does. He gets hurt a lot. When he plays physical, he make enemies and becomes a target.
He's been the point of abuse by a lot of teams. They do this to a lot of #1-2 D men, dump into their corner and pound them. His shoulder took a long time to heal properly, if it's ever going to be 100% with a stability surgery. Now he has another, AC joint injuries can heal right or cause long term ramifications if they don't. Compensation injuries can crop up.

I hope he's fine and retains his higher level of play. I just don't have confidence in the track record his previous post injury rebounds.

sounds like he's going to be out a few weeks. death knell in this crap season.
Not to be negative, but this is good for clarifying what direction the GM should take going forward for this season. Choice paralysis between add/sell would be the worst thing for this team going forward. At least now we know the choice is obvious for the GM.

But what happens should, by some miracle, they win 5 or 6 of their next 7 games going into the trade deadline and actually show signs of life?

In 8 seasons, McAvoy has played only 2 full seasons (I consider them full seasons with 74 and 78 games played)

Little concerning. He's probably only going to finish with 60-65 GP again this year.
I am more worried about the damage the infection is doing in or near that shoulder. AC joint damage is bad enough, but infections usually eat tissue.

Remember Brady's ACL fix got infected and the panic set in over the potential effect it would have on his career at the time. Well, that turned out to be alarmist.
He should heal, as long as they got it all.

Can we get a poll going to
I wonder how it’s pronounced? Is it Rice or Reece? Odd spelling either way.
When I saw Phillies rookie 1B Rhys Hoskins hit the MLB scene by storm a few years ago I thought ‘never seen that first name before’

Then in in the 2024 Paris Olympics a gymnast from Ireland Rhys McClenaghan won the gold on the pommel horse ~ he is a freakin machine

Maybe Charlie & Kaley Sullivan a couple of Irish folks were watching and liked it ~ she was definitely pregnant then

Gotta say this was ass kicking - what a beast

Just a guess but could be the inspiration

Well, he did play 67 of a possible 70 in the covid shortened season. then he played 51 of a possible 56 in the abbreviated season...so that's more like 4 full seasons out of 7. Still a little worrisome but for a physical player not completely crazy.

I guess technically it is. It's still not an 82 game season.

I guess I misunderstood your point…I think I still do. I thought the conversation was about being concerned at how many games he misses each season due to injury.

I mean who cares about 82 games played when the whole league only played 56 or 70?
Because 56 games isn't a full NHL season. 70 games isn't either. It's a shortened season.

He played most/all games in a shortened season, sure.

So even if we scrap those two seasons.

2017-18 - Missed 19 games
2018-19 - Missed 28 games
2022-23 - Missed 15 games
2024-25 - He's missed 7 already, Probably missing much more.

I’m with you.

For me, it’s similar to Swayman getting a huge contract without carrying a full season + playoff load.

I was hoping it was pronounced “rice” and he was named after Jim Ed Rice but they wanted to change the spelling so it wouldn’t seem too weird.

McAvoy is a tough dude. Played through it and then when the infection developed the pain is unbearable and it moves fast. Nothing anyone really did unless it's the AC damage they missed?
Watching that interview, Friedman poses the question of whether he got a shot that might be cause of the infection.

Not a doctor, and I don’t know if he did indeed get a pain shot, but if he did - then that would suggest that they missed both a significant injury and gave a patient with heart issues an internal infection. That’s a pretty poor bit of doctoring.

I don’t know if Friedman is onto something there or not. Team USA docs will be unhappy if hes wrong.

No one is going to be happy.
