We don't know enough to draw any of these conclusions except in very rare occasions when the truth is actually revealed. Most of the time, like this one, we just choose the story we like best and behave like it's the truth.

Garrett seems like a good dude that loves to play. Getting what he said he wanted might very well have required refusing to play; refusing to live up to his word. A guy like that might try to get out WITHOUT compromising himself in those ways, find that he can't do it in a way he's comfortable with, and make the most out of staying put.

See? That's a nifty little story I just made up that could just as easily be true, and probably has been in the past...

Maybe you'll keep picking the supposition you prefer, or maybe you'll admit that you don't know. Up to you.

He was getting a fat deal regardless. This isn’t some average or above average player, this was a legit superstar. He was getting that money from someone.

I've liked the low/medium risk deals for Lattimore and Samuel but it always seemed like Garrett was getting way too far ahead of ourselves ...

Normal situation sure, I’d agree.

For someone saying they want to win a Superbowl as the reason for publicly demanding a trade, and then signing that to stay there (knowing damn well they’re not even close to winning a championship), I’d disagree on this one.

I’m guessing the Browns made it abundantly clear in private that they were refusing to trade him and he would have to sit out and trash his relationship with the fans to get out.

But — one costs 17m for a season, and a 5th

The other costs 30m a season and a 2nd.

I like both. And Metcalf is def better. But they are different players, and I like how Deebo may work in our offense

I don't know what vibe you guys are getting, but feels to me like Deebo wants to be HERE. All the guys that are clearly just looking for the highest bidder can take that shit up the road.

I don't mind paying big for the right mercenary, but overall I want to continue building the culture the way they did last year. Look for the pieces that fit, the guys that want to be here, the leaders with motor to spare. And yeah, it'll also help if they're leaving a little on the table to come here. Let's take the right kind of advantage of being a destination.

this is what AP did last year. Find the right players at the right price. Nothing super flashy. Deebo kinda fits that mold. 20M and well known but still good value and perfect for our offense.

We need to work some magic on lines though.

Feels like there aren't a ton of great options for either line in free agency, but should be some solid help in the draft. Thinking will be focusing on the lines in the draft this year. We took a DT and OT in the 2nd and 3rd last year. Expect something similar.
